The Pokémon Walkthrough- RED and BLUE Versions

Please Note:This walkthrough will be using the names of the t.v. series {Ash and Gary}, and you can't choose Pikachu at the start of the game! Also, this was created with the help of Pokémon Power Issue#1-5 and the Pokémon Official (NINTENDO) Player's Guide. And ONLY use this walkthrough if you beat the game, OR if you're really, really stuck in one point of the game and you tried to pass that point, but you couldn't.

INTRODUCTION-
You are an 11 year-old boy from the unknown town of PALLET named Ash. Of coarse you must get you're first Pokémon from Prof. Oak to leave Pallet on you're pokémon adventure.

PALLET TOWN-
First, go to the PC in the top-left corner of your room. Log on and get the potion out of the PC. Next, go downstairs to leave your house. Go to Gary's house and talk to his sister, she says that Gary is at Prof. Oak's Lab. Go to the big building near the bottom of PALLET TOWN and go in. Gary should be waiting at the far end of Prof. Oak's Lab. Talk to Gary and he says that he's been waiting for Prof. Oak to arrive. Exit the Lab. Since Prof. Oak's not there, why not leave town? If you leave PALLET TOWN, Prof. Oak will come to you and warn you of Wild Pokémon, then tell you to follow him. He takes you to his Lab, where you can choose your first pokémon. Gary wants a pokémon too, but he's not too greedy, so he picks one that's strong against the pokémon you choose. You can choose from: Pokémon#001-BULBASAUR, Pokémon#004-CHARMANDER, and Pokémon#007-SQUIRTLE. Once you choose your pokémon, Gary will choose one and then challenge you to a duel. [DUEL TIP-if you get too low on health, use the potion from your PC.] After the duel, you can go to your house to rest, then move on to ROUTE#1.

Route#1-
Route#1 leads directly to VIRIDIAN CITY, the first city you go to with a pokémon center. The tall grass along Route#1 contains many Pokémon#016-PIDGEYs and many Pokémon#019-RATTATAs. You can't catch pokémon right at the moment, so you'll just have to fight the wild pokémon without catching them. There is a man from VIRIDIAN CITY along the path that gives you a free potion! For free! This is a fairly straight-forward path that leads you to VIRIDIAN CITY.

VIRIDIAN CITY-
In VIRIDIAN CITY, there is a Pokémon center, a pokémon Gym, and a Poké Mart. The Poké Mart has these items for sale:

Pokéball----------------------200Ľ
Antidote----------------------100Ľ
Paralyze Heal-----------------200Ľ
Burn Heal---------------------250Ľ
What do I do now?
The pokémon Gym in VIRIDIAN CITY will be closed the first visit. Also, in the first visit to VIRIDIAN, there will be an old man saying that you can't cross his property to VIRIDIAN FOREST. How to advance is by going to the Poké Mart. The cashier will give you "Oak's Parcel" to take to Prof. Oak. You won't be able to buy anything at the Poké Mart, however.

Back already? You've only been out for less than a day!
You'll have to go back to PALLET TOWN to give Prof. Oak his parcel. A quick and easy way to get back to PALLET TOWN is by jumping off the ledges in ROUTE#1, but if you want, you can have your pokémon gain levels in the tall grass. Back in PALLET TOWN, go to Prof. Oak's lab. Go in and talk to Prof. Oak. He will take the parcel, then Gary will come in. Prof. Oak will then give both you and Gary a Pokédex, one of Prof. Oak's inventions. When Gary leaves, he says that he's going to borrow a TOWN MAP from his sister and tell her not to lend you one, however, if you go to Gary's house and talk to his sister, she'll lend you a TOWN MAP. After you get the TOWN MAP, go back to VIRIDIAN CITY, en route to VIRIDIAN FOREST. Once you get back to VIRIDIAN, go to the Poké Mart to buy some pokéballs.

HIDDEN POTION- There is a potion in the bush in northern VIRIDIAN CITY.

ROUTE#2-
Route#2 leads to VIRIDIAN FOREST and PEWTER CITY. The tall grass along Route#2 contains many Pokémon#016-PIDGEYs and many Pokémon#019-RATTATAs, there are few Pokémon#013-WEEDLEs and few Pokémon#010-CATERPIEs . To the east of ROUTE#2, there is a path that goes past VIRIDIAN FOREST that you won't be able to reach until later in the game.

VIRIDIAN FOREST-
VIRIDIAN FOREST has three pokémon trainers that will fight you. They only have bug-type pokémon, so it won't be too tough. In the tall grass of VIRIDIAN FOREST, you'll encounter few Pokémon#025-PIKACHUs, many Pokémon#013-WEEDLEs, many Pokémon#014-KAKUNAs , few Pokémon#010-CATERPIEs and Pokémon#011-METAPODs, few Pokémon#013-WEEDLEs and Pokémon#014-KAKUNAs and many Pokémon#010-CATERPIEs Pokémon#011-METAPODs. There are three visable items along the forest path, and one 'invisable' one. The 'invisable' one is an ANTIDOTE, stuck in the first tree you'll see. From the start of the path, turn right, then follow the trail. It will then lead you back out to ROUTE#2 and PEWTER CITY.

PEWTER CITY-
PEWTER CITY has a Museum, a Pokémon Gym, a Pokémon Center, and a Poké Mart. The Poké Mart has these items:

Pokéball----------------------200Ľ
Potion------------------------300Ľ
Escape Rope-------------------550Ľ
Antidote----------------------100Ľ
Burn Heal---------------------250Ľ
Awakening---------------------200Ľ
Paralyze Heal-----------------200Ľ
PEWTER CITY's Museum will give helpful clues for later in the game for only 50Ľ!

PEWTER CITY GYM- LEADER-BROCK
Brock's Pokémon-
Pokémon#074-Geodude: Level 12
Pokémon#094-Onix: Level 14
After you defeat Brock you'll recieve the BOULDERBADGE and TM34-teaches the rock attack 'Bide'.

[DUEL TIP: If you use grass or water-type pokémon, you'll get the best result against Brock. Remember- fire and rock won't do you any good!]

ROUTE#3-
There are about nine pokémon trainers along ROUTE#3. Their pokémon aren't as tough as Brock's, don't worry. This Route takes you to Mt. Moon, the cave with the ledgendary CLEFAIRY. Along the tall grass of this area, you'll find many Pokémon#016-PIDGEYs and many Pokémon#021-SPEAROWs and few Pokémon#039-JIGGLYPUFFs. There is a Pokémon Center just by the entrance to Mt. Moon. Inside the Pokémon Center, a man will sell you a Pokémon#129-MAGIKARP for 500Ľ- sounds good? how about a rip off! You can get them later in the game for free.

MT. MOON-
As you enter Mt. Moon you will find many pokémon#041-ZUBATs, few pokémon#074-GEODUDEs, few pokémon#046-PARASs and few pokémon#035-CLEFAIRYs. The item boxes in Mt. Moon contain the following items:

ESCAPE ROPE-used to escape current area
MOON STONE-triggers evolution
TM12-teaches the water attack 'Water Gun'
TM01-teaches the fighting attack 'Mega Punch'
HP UP-boosts HP meter by one point
Mt. Moon is the first place in the game where you meet up with TEAM ROCKET, be careful of them. There is also a pokémon trainer that found two fossils, if you beat him, you get to share with him. You can coose the Dome Fossil of the Helix Fossil.

ROUTE#4-
After the long trek from Mt. Moon, this road will seem like a walk down to the pokémon center... actually, it will be a walk to a pokémon center! ROUTE#4 contains many pokémon#019-RATTATAs, few pokémon#021-SPEAROWs, few pokémon#023-EKANSs and few Pokémon#027-SANDSHREWs. There is one item along the road and that's TM04-teaches the flying attack 'Whirlwind'.
PLEASE NOTE: AFTER YOU HOP INTO CERULEAN CITY, YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO GET OUT UNTILL YOU BEAT MISTY.

CERULEAN CITY-
CERULEAN CITY, the city that is famous for the Bike Shop, you finally got there! The only problem is that each bike costs 1,000,000Ľ! You won't be able to afford a bike untill later in the game. CERULEAN CITY has THE BIKE SHOP, a Pokémon Gym, a Pokémon Center and a Poké Mart.
The Poké Mart has the following items in stock:

Pokéball----------------------200Ľ
Potion------------------------300Ľ
Repel-------------------------350Ľ
Antidote----------------------100Ľ
Burn Heal---------------------250Ľ
Awakening---------------------200Ľ
Paralyze Heal-----------------200Ľ
There is a house where in the back yard is a hidden RARE CANDY that is located near 'Nugget Bridge' or otherwise known as, ROUTE#24.

CERULEAN CITY GYM- LEADER-MISTY
Misty's pokémon- Pokémon#120-STARYU: Level 18
Pokémon#121-STARMIE: Level 21
After you defeat Misty, you'll recieve the CASCADEBADGE and TM11-teaches the water attack 'Bubblebeam'. The CASCADEBADGE lets you use CUT anytime.

[DUEL TIP: If you use electric or grass-type pokémon, you'll have a better chance of defeating Misty. Remember, fire, water and rock types won't have much effect on Misy's pokémon.]

ROUTE#24 & ROUTE#25-
You won't be able to get far north unless you deafeat Gary and six members of Team Rocket. When you're fighting Team Rocket, I suggest you go to the pokémon center of CERULEAN CITY after every member or every second member. Along ROUTE#24 & #25, you will encounter few Pokémon#016-PIDGEYs and Pokémon#063-ABRAs, many Pokémon#013-WEEDLEs, Pokémon#014-KAKUNAs, few Pokémon#043-ODDISHs, Pokémon#010-CATERPIEs and Pokémon#011-METAPODs, many Pokémon#069-BELLSPROUTs, Pokémon#010-CATERPIEs and Pokémon#011-METAPODs, few Pokémon#013-WEEDLEs and Pokémon#014-KAKUNAs. There are two items along the road: TM45-teaches the electric attack 'Thunder Wave' and TM19-teaches the fighting attack 'Seismic Toss'. There are several Pokémon trainers along this route when you head towards the Sea Cottage.

SEA COTTAGE-
If you enter the Sea Cottage, you can't help but notice a pokémon in the middle of the room, but, where is the trainer? If you haven't tried it yet, talk to the pokémon. His name is Bill, a pokémaniac. He tells you he got messed up with a freak accident with his telepoter and his DNA structure mixed with a pokémon's DNA structure. He needs your help to bring him back to normal, but don't worry, he tells you how to fix it. If you help him he'll give you the S.S. Anne ticket. After you recieve it, exit the cottage then go back in and check his computer. Now, it's time to head out to Vermillion City, and get to that cruise!

ROUTE#5-
After you visit Bill, head back to CERULEAN CITY. In front of the north-eastern house of CERULEAN CITY before the visit Bill there will be an officer Jenny blocking the door, if you go there after the visit with Bill, Jenny will step aside and let you in. Apparently Team Rocket has attacked the house. Go out the hole in the wall at the other end of the house to fight a Team Rocket member. If you defeat him, you'll recieve TM28-teaches the ground attack 'Dig'. After you're done with him, exit to the south of CERULEAN CITY, which leads to ROUTE#5. In the tall grass of ROUTE#5, you will find many Pokémon#016-PIDGEYs, few Pokémon#043-ODDISHs, few Pokémon#056-MANKEYs, few Pokémon#069-BELLSPROUTs and few Pokémon#052-MEOWTHs. The only tall grass there is is on the way to the daycare. The route south to SAFFRON CITY is blocked, so head into the underground path that leads to ROUTE#6.

ROUTE#6-
The Underground Path runs underneath SAFFRON CITY and emerges in ROUTE#6. The road north to SAFFRON CITY is blocked here, too, but that's alright, you're heading for VERMILLION CITY! VERMILLION CITY lies to the south, and as always, rival trainers are at every turn- remember, if they can't see you, they can't fight you. In the tall grass of ROUTE#6, you will find many Pokémon#016-PIDGEYs, few Pokémon#043-ODDISHs, few Pokémon#056-MANKEYs, few Pokémon#069-BELLSPROUTs and few Pokémon#052-MEOWTHs.

VERMILLION CITY-
VERMILLION CITY has a Pokémon Center, a Poké Mart, a trading house, the first Fishing Guru's house, The Pokémon Fan Club, and a Pokémon Gym.

Pokémon Trading Extraviganza!
At the VERMILLION CITY trading house, the guy there wants to trade his Pokémon#083-FARFETCH'D for a fairly common pokémon. Don't hesitate to trade, there is only one FARFETCH'D. But, However, FERFETCH'D doesn't evolve.

Fishing for fun
The first Fishing Guru's house is the north-western most house in VERMILLION, he gives you his OLD ROD to catch fish in the water- POKÉMON fish! Unfortunately, the OLD ROD only catches level 5 MAGIKARP.

Poké Fans!
In The Pokémon Fan Club, talk to the guy in black at the top. He asks you if you came to listen to pokémon stories of his- say YES and listen. Remember back in the CERULEAN CITY section about the million-dollar bike? He gives you a coupon to get a FREE BIKE! FOR FREE!

VERMILLION CITY GYM- LEADER-LT. SURGE
You won't be able to enter this gym untill you have the HM01 to cut down the bush blocking the entrance.
LT. SURGE's pokémon-

Pokémon#026-RAICHU: Level 24
If you defeat LT. SURGE, you'll recieve the THUNDERBADGE and TM24-teaches the electric attack 'Thunderbolt'

[DUEL TIP: Ground-type pokémon will be the most effective here. Remember that flying, electric and water pokémon won't do you any good!]

ROUTE#11-
If you haven't beaten Lt. Surge, you should do so. You need to continue your journey and go to Lavender Town and the quickest way to get there is ROUTE#11 and ROUTE#12. Unfortunately, ROUTE#12 is blocked by a Pokémon#143-SNORLAX, but you can get as far as the lookout tower. Inside the lookout tower is one of Prof. Oak's Aides. If you have 30 or more different kinds of pokémon, he will give you ITEMFINDER. Sinse you can't go to ROUTE#12, you'll have to take the long route starting at Diglett's Cave. The pokémon hidden in the tall grass are many Pokémon#023-EKANSs, many Pokémon#021-SPEAROWs, few Pokémon#096-DROWZEEs and many Pokémon#027-SANDSHREWs.

DIGLETT'S CAVE
With this Snorlax Road Block Detour, you must head down into DIGLETT'S CAVE. Guess what pokémon are in here? ManyPokémon#050-DIGLETTs and few Pokémon#051-DUGTRIOs! DIGLETT'S CAVE leads from ROUTE#11 to ROUTE#2, emerging near VIRIDIAN FOREST and PEWTER CITY. When you get out, go South to a house and talk to Prof. Oak's Aide. He will give you HM05-teaches the FLASH attack which cannot be erased by another move. Now go to PEWTER CITY and then CERULEAN CITY.

ROUTE#9 & ROUTE#10-
Using your newfound HM ability, CUT, chop your way east from CERULEAN CITY to enter ROUTE#9. POWERLESS: You can see a bit of the Power Plant from ROUTE#9, but you can't reach it. Later in the game, you'll be able to reach it. Don't bother trying to get to it without the appropriate item.

ROCK TUNNELL-
Once you get inside the ROCK TUNNEL, you'll be saying "This place is too dark. I can't see!" Well, if you recieved the FLASH HM, and you have a pokémon equipped with it, use FLASH! All of a sudden, you can see the cavern! If you don't have FLASH, too bad, you'll have to cross a pitch black maze. The ROCK TUNNEL is the only way to get from ROUTE#9 to ROUTE#10 and vice versa. The ROCK TUNNEL contains two levels. You'll encounter many Pokémon#041-ZUBATs, few Pokémon#074-GEODUDEs, few Pokémon#066-MACHOPs and few Pokémon#095-ONIXs. Fuji?
Mr. Fuji, head of the Volunteer Pokémon Center has mysteriously gone missing. Maybe this has something to do with the disturbances in Pokémon Tower, or maybe he got assasinated, but who knows?

A Pikachu, by any other name, would it be as shocking?
If you would like your nicknames rated, or you would like to change the awful name you gave your pokémon at the beginning of the game, go to the Nickname Rater. He will rate your nicknames and allow you to change them.

Pokémon Tower-What are they?
When you journey through Pokémon Tower, you'll find out that dead pokémon get buried there. Also, there is a disturbance inside. You'll meet up with your ol' pal, Gary. After you go up a couple flights of stairs, you'll encounter non-identified ghosts. Your pokémon, even at level 100, will be too scared. you must find a way to ID the ghosts. Rumour has it that Team Rocket struck again at CELADON CITY. Perhaps you should check it out?

ROUTE#8-
CELADON CITY lies to the west of SAFFRON CITY. Yet another time, the road to SAFFRON CITY is closed, so you'll have to take the detour. The detour takes you through the Underground Path to ROUTE#7. As always on Routes, there's tall grass. What lies within will be revealed: There are few Pokémon#016-PIDGEYs, few Pokémon#056-MANKEYs, Pokémon#023-EKANSs and Pokémon#058-GROWLITHEs, and few Pokémon#069-BELLSPROUTs, Pokémon#052-MEOWTHs and Pokémon#037-VULPIXs.

A Parched Road Block-
Every road house you've been to that leads to SAFFRON CITY, the guards won't let you in. Who knows what's going on inside SAFFRON CITY? Why are the guards keeping everyone inside SAFFRON CITY or outside? The guards always say that they're thirsty, perhaps CELADON CITY has something?

CELADON CITY-
CELADON CITY, the city of shopping sprees. CELADON CITY is also POKÉMON'S Las Vegas. There's a Casino near the center of CELADON CITY. An Eevee for the taking
In Celadon Mansion, there doesn't seem to be much there, unless you have 150 pokémon, or find the secret entrance. To find this entrance, you must have a good eye for secret doors. If you find this secret door, go upstairs and go inside the little room. There is a pokéball on the table. Inside is Pokémon#133-EEVEE! It can evolve into one of three pokémon with the stones, the water Pokémon#134-VAPOREON, the electric Pokémon#135-JOLTEON, or the fire Pokémon#136-FLAREON.

Water water, everywhere, but there IS a drop to drink!
Remember the thirsty police officers? go on the Celadon Department Store Roof Top and buy a water to give to them. They'll let you through after that!

Goin' out for lunch
Be sure to visit the diner and talk to everyone. Someone might give you something... like the COIN CASE! The COIN CASE allows you to carry coins from the casino! You might want to take a trip to the casino.

Pokémon warehouse
In the Pokémon Warehouse next door to the diner, they say they ship 2000 pokémon a month to be used as game prizes. They also say they make BIG money. You've met up with Team Rocket before, and you know they like lots of money. Maybe you should check out the game corner?

A penny for your thoughts
At the game corner, it seems like it's all fun and games. But there's this mysterious man standing at the back of the room... Anyway, let's play slots! (Hopefully you'll be lucky!)

Pokémon Tower-
The situation in Pokémon Tower is grave, indeed, but with your newly found SILPH SCOPE, you can dig this mistery up. To use the Silph Scope, all you need to do is have it with you when entering the tower, and it will automatically ID the ghosts for you. It seems that the more powerful ghosts are at the top of the tower, so you should go there as quick as possible. Be prepared to face some "Gastly" pokémon on your way up!
The items found in pokémon tower are:
ESCAPE ROPE- Flees you to the last pokémon center visited

ELIXER- Adds 10PP to all the moves of one pokémon

Using the Scope to scoop up the ghosts-
Without the Silph Scope, You cannot fight the ghosts, you pokémon are too afraid. With the Scope, however, you can battle and capture ghost pokémon.

Gary's at it again!-
Gary is here, and he has powerful pokémon! His pokémon are:
Pokémon#017-PIDGEOTTO level 25;
Pokémon#130-GYARADOS level 23;
Pokémon#058-GROWLITHE level 22;
Pokémon#064-KADABRA level 20;
and the pokémon he started with at the beggining of the game.

Possessed Channelers-
A group of people who call themselves 'CHANNELERS' are possesed by ghosts. The way to un-possess them is to defeat the ghosts in a duel.

Holy Light-
One channeler has discovered the healing power of light. If you step on the healing tile, all of your pokémon will be healed. But the question is: Can you get there?

Mr. Fuji and his presant-
With the Scope, you can fight the ghost that's causing the trouble. It's a Marowak! Defeat it and you can pass to the next level. YOU CANNOT CATCH MAROWAK! Team Rocket is holding Mr. Fuji in custody. Defeat them and rescue Mr. Fuji. Later, at his house, he will give you a special presant, the POKÉ FLUTE.

SAFFRON CITY-
To find your way to SAFFRON CITY, you must first give Officer Jenny a glass of water and she will let you past.
Ahhhh... SAFFRON CITY, home of the Fighting Dojo, the Psychic Gym, a poké mart, a pokémon center and Silph co., the creators of the Silph Scope. Silph co. is a civillian company, so how could GIOVANNI get his hands on the Scope?

Silph Co.-
Silph co. is located in the center of SAFFRON CITY. If Silph co. is providing Team Rocket with adanced technology, who knows what will happen to the world?

Mr. Psychic-
In the bottom-right hand corner of SAFFRON CITY, you'll find the house of Mr. Psychic. If you talk to him he gives you TM29 which teaches the psychic attack- PSYCHIC.

Copycat, Copycat
There is a house in SAFFRON CITY at the top-left that you can only enter after solving the mistery at Silph Co. Inside, there is a little girl that LOVES Poké Dolls. She also likes to mimic people. Give her a Poké Doll and she will give you (a Poké Doll?)TM31- Teaches the psychic attack- MIMIC.

KARATE CHOP, HO!-
SAFFRON CITY, as I told you before, has a normal Pokémon Gym and a Fighting Dojo. This is the Fighting Dojo, a special gym where if you win, you don't get a badge, but a one of a kind pokémon! You can choose between Pokémon#106-HITMONLEE, the kicking fiend or Pokémon#107-HITMONCHAN, the punching demon.

SAFFRON CITY GYM- LEADER-SABRINA
Sabrina of SAFFRON CITY uses Psychic attacks to overwhelm her enemy. You won't be able to face her, however, unless you crack the case at Silph Co.
Sabrina's Pokémon-

Pokémon#122-MR. MIME: level 37
Pokémon#049-VENOMOTH: level 38
