ENDURANCE

I felt that there was a lack of a score reflecting the physical endurance or constitution of a PC. The Strength score is a measure of physical strength, and should not be confounded with endurance or stamina, hence I have created a Endurance (or Constitution) score.

Character Creation

The Endurance ability score is also generated with 3d6, along with Strength, Reflexes, Intelligence, Psychic Talent and Looks. Unlike the other scores which are permanent, the Endurance score rises in correlation with the Health Points (and thus the Rank) of a PC.

Health Points

The initial HP in generating a new PC is originally determined by a 1d6+x, where x depends on the profession of the character. The correlation between the 1d6 variation and the Endurance of the character is now described as follows. In other words, if Sir Tobias the 1st rank Knight has an Endurance of 16, he will automatically be assigned a initial HP score of 6+7=13, rather than by rolling 1d6+7.

For every 3 points of initial HP that the PC gains because of an increase in rank, his Endurance score rises by 1 point. Hence Bundy, a 7th rank Barbarian, who started out with an Endurance of 14, had an initial HP of 5+9=14 at 1st rank. At 4th rank, his Endurance rises to 15 (his HP is 17). At 7th rank, his Endurance rises to 16 (HP is 20). Non-adventuring humans are assumed to have a maximal Endurance of 12.

Saving throws for poisons and diseases now use the Endurance score rather than the Strength score. Since the Endurance score rises as the PC gains rank, it is possible to obtain scores above 18. A new category of poisons, Very Strong (5d6) can be added.

Non-human Endurance

For added complexity, the GM may decide to treat the various races differently in terms of Endurance. Perhaps Dwarves are hardier than humans, and have a +2 Endurance bonus with respect to poisons.

For purposes of determining if a monster could be poisoned, the GM may calculate a rule-of-thumb Endurance for an ‘average’ creature as 10 + 1 for every 3 HP. Note that some poisons may not affect certain species at all, or have a different effect than if used on a human.

 

 

WOUNDS & RECOVERY

I felt that existing rules for a character to start healing naturally - after 4 days, each day he regains HP equivalent to rank - took too long for most of my gaming purposes. So I modified it to as follows:

LOCKED DOORS

Current rule is that a character with Strength of 16 or more can force open a typical door. Weaker ones need to roll under their Strength on d20. Each attempt costs 1 HP, successful or not. An elaboration of the system would be to assign a door a modifier (based on its durability) so that there is a greater variation in the kinds of doors PCs would or would not try to break down.
