Chun Li ("Beautiful Spring", Chinese) is quite possibly the strongest woman in the world. Her quest for vengeance for her father's death took her into service in Interpol, and around the world several times over in search of his killer, and made her the formidable fighter she is today.

Chun Li's father trained her in the art of Chinese Kenpo. She was just an ordinary Chinese girl until the mysterious disappearance of her father many years ago. When she was old enough she decided to search for him, and eventually became an agent of Interpol in Hong Kong. Her quest led her to join the Alpha tournament, where she was to receive clues as to the identitity of the man responsible for her father's disappearance, a powerful and mysterious drug lord. Eventually, she met up with the man known as M. Bison, whom told her that he had her father killed for sniffing around his operations. M. Bison attacked and knocked Chun Li unconscious, and escaped.

Chun Li entered the second Alpha tournament in hopes of bringing M. Bison in for his illegal activities. She teamed up with the woman known only as Rose, whom revealed to her that Bison was the master of a great mystical power. Chun Li confronted M. Bison alongside her. Rose, with Chun Li's help, succeeded in sealing off much of M. Bison's mystical powers, but he again eluded Chun Li's grasp and escaped. However, she swore revenge on Bison for her father's death, and continued to track his organization's movements as best she could, and bided her time.

Chun Li entered the second Street Fighter tournament, again on her quest for vengeance against M. Bison. She was sent in by Interpol to bring Bison in for his crimes. This time around, however, she had help in the form of Guile, and she met the wandering vagabond, Ryu, who taught her to better control her Kikoken fireball. She took a liking to the young man, but never revealed it to anyone. But alas, Bison was aware of her intentions, and sent the dangerous assassin Vega after her. In her own hotel room a brutal and bloody battle took place. She barely defeated Vega, but was seriously injured and was sent to the local hospital for treatment. Bison had an assassination attempt planned, but it was thwarted by Ryu, who had come to see Chun Li. After Ryu's defeat of M. Bison, Chun Li helped Interpol track down the last of Bison's criminal empire, and was said to have taken a long-deserved vacation from Interpol.

In the years between the second and third Street Fighter tournament, Chun Li attempted to stay in touch with Ryu through Ken. However, Ken quickly tired of trying to track Ryu down and stopped delivering her letters to him. Chun Li eventually gave up on Ryu, and was then called out of retirement to keep tabs on a mysterious organization in the shadows. This led her to the third Street Fighter tournament, hosted by a man known only as Gill. Little is known of what happened to Chun Li during or after the tournament, but it is said that she freed Sean as Ken fought Urien, and disappeared...
