Guy is a Japanese student of ninjitsu who has lived in America among his friends in Metro City for a great while. But it was not always this way, as Guy was once part of a villainous gang of thugs called the Mad Gear. Eventually, Guy decided to leave the Mad Gear gang, and helped pro-wrestler-turned-mayor Mike Haggar and his friends bring down the Mad Gear.

His training incomplete, Guy returned home and renewed his friendly rivalry with his master Zekuu. Guy dreamed of defeating Zekuu, and to test himself, he entered the Alpha tournaments. In the first Alpha tournament, Guy encountered Sodom, whom tried to gain vengeance for the fall of the Mad Gear, but Guy easily defeated him and returned home in the aftermath of the battle.

Guy entered the second Alpha tournament upon hearing that Sodom was back to his old tricks. Confronted by Sodom, he fared well, until Sodom unleashed his backup plan, the villainous Rolento. Guy was quickly overpowered and was on the verge of death, when the fighter called Ryu appeared, and seeing a "dishonorable act" taking place, quickly dispatched of Rolento. Guy took the advantage, and dispatched of Sodom as well. Guy returned home, confident in his skills, and ready to face his master to prove himself.
