Necro's true identity is unknown. He was once a vagrant living in a poor village near Moscow. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Necro was taken in by a mysterious underworld organization for the purpose of being an "enforcer." But they performed awful experiments on him, and made him into a cyber-soldier, and one who cannot live in the light, at that. Tortured ever since his experiment, Necro secretly wishes to be free of his tormentors.

Necro was entered into the third Street Fighter tournament as a test of his abilities. However, his memories began resurfacing throughout that time. He remembered that he had two other brothers, a daughter and a sister somewhere. He tried to turn on the organization, but found that they had his sister and his daughter, Illya and Effie. and was forced to do their bidding or both of them would be killed. He was sent to dispatch Ibuki before she got the "G-Files," but Alex intervened and defeated him. Seeking redemption, Necro sought out Gill, but was trapped by the retreating despot, who ensared him in a trap as he actiavted the island's self destruct sequence. Luckily for Necro, Illya had escaped in the confusion after Gill had been defeated, and was able to set Necro free. The two escaped as the island was destroyed, and continued on in their search for Effie. With the knowledge that Gill was still alive, Necro knew that Effie was as well. He swore to bring Gill down, and get Effie back at all costs.
