Name: Chikra Age: 19 Home Planet: Sriluur Sex: Male Species: Weequay Role: Educated Street Punk
Personal History: Sriluur is covered with vast, alkaline dunes and scrub lands. It is hard to survive in the wilderness. Unfortuanetly, it is often even harder to survive on the streets of Sriluur's capitol, Merim City. Since the Houk established a colony on Sriluur generations ago, there had been enmity between the Weequay and the Houk. This often degenerates into gang warfare between the Weequay and Houk youth in the city, especially in the run-down Western edge of the city. This section of the city is one of the worst slums in the sector, with roving bands of youth looting and loitering, with deadly fights breaking out over simple misunderstandings in the wreckage and boarded-up buildings of the area.
Chikra grew up in this environment, early on becoming a member of a gang after his mother was caught at the wrong place and time in a fight. He followed his older brother, K'rek obidently through these years, enduring even the abuse of the older gang members. They nicknamed him "Chikra," a word that means "cherised" in Houk. This was the ultimate insult for a tough gang member. However, the name was used so much that it eventually supplanted his original name.
Chikra had a hard early life, dealing with abusive gang members, living in burnt-out buildings and being exposed to cruelty, drugs, hunger, violence, and all the things a young person should never have to experience. He grew up hardened and street-smart. However, he was not totally a punk; he heard stories of the one named Guraquay, a hero who was starting a quest against the "metal demon." Though Chikra was naturally cynical about the "demon" of the stories, he was fascinated by Guraquay; here was a Weequay with a purpose in life, something Chikra needed desperately. He began looking into Guraquay's ways, and found out about his fighting art of Xeramatchu. Chikra snuck off as much as he could to visit the library on the north side of town, eagerly absorbing as much as he could about Weequay history, warfare (especially the records of the fight against Xim the Despot), and Xeramatchu. He taught himself a bastardized version of the martial art, and was widely recognized when he used it to single-handedly stop an armed Houk looter from robbing the local grocery store.
While Chikra is comfortable on the streets, he is looking for a way to escape his life of hardship. He was recently devestated by the death of his brother (and mentor) after a rival gang drew blasters, and is disillusioned with his life. While he won't up and leave his turf, he will Sriluur if given a good enough reason.
Personality: Chikra's personality depends on his company. If he is in public or around his peers, he is very self-confident (to the point of arrogance), full of smack-talking bombast, and overall a loud-mouthed punk. However, if he finds someone who shares his love of knowledge, he will be excited, notably more respectful and quiet, and one could easily mistake him for an eager college student of Mrissi (if it weren't for his punk clothes). While he is often very insulting and confrontational ("What, you want some of this, punk? Huh? Where ya goin, don't ya want an ass beating?"), he is doing it for intimidation factor; he actually tries to avoid actual combat when possible, especially if weapons get drawn ("Hey hey, whoa, cool it!). He is paranoid of police, and his first reaction to cops showing up is to run. However, his skill at Xeramatchu and knife fighting get him through when fighting is the only option, and his reaction to run is always tempered by his feeling of responsibility to his friends. He will always follow an opportunity to gain more knowledge.
Appearance: Chikra is a Weequay, with the pebbled skin and sunken eyes of that race. has a slight build, and one would not expect him to be a martial artist. However, this form is well suited to the fast, swirling whirlwind that is Xeramatchu. His hair, one of the most important Weequay traditions, is about chest length. He wears street punk clothes emblazoned with gang symbols, and a sand cloak and hood. He has a knife that folds up into a compact package, and can be expanded into a full knife in a complex action with a flick of the wrist.
