Ghols
"A
ghol's idea of an "educated" guess generally isn't too
impressive."
- Unknown
Ghols are
hunchbacked, wiry baboon-like creatures from the Outer Rim. Originally
not a spacefaring race, the Ghols were confined to their planet
until the Old Republic scouting ships came... and promptly passed
them by. The Ghols, determined to correct this error, promptly
hijacked a lost freighter by ambushing the pilot and running off
with his ship. Since then, they have spread somewhat throughout
the Outer Rim Territories, although they still are fairly rare
sights.
Ghols are
distressingly ape-like. Though as tall as a human when stretched
out, Ghols are nearly always bent over, walking in a striding
lope and using their knuckles for support. They have long muzzle
with large, spade-like teeth and exposed gums that nearly obscure
their beady eyes. They are covered with short, bristly hair that
ranges from a rusty red to a dirty brown and a sort of albino
white. They generally wear nothing but a sack around over their
shoulder, where they carry their personal belongings (some of
which they enjoy to throw at those they dislike). Their language
is a gutteral and simple series of grunts.
Ghols are
not particulary bright about anything. They tend to play solitaire
in pairs and get confused easily. This is not a violent kind of
stupidity, however; instead of smashing they scratch their heads
and wander off to do something else. However, they have a kind
of feral cunning about them that makes up for their relatively
small brains. On their home planet, they are at the top of the
food chain. They can cover large amounts of territory quickly,
and though an individual ghol is weak they prefer pack tactics
to take down larger prey, often using rocks or simple spears to
weaken their opponent from a distance. In the galaxy at large,
they gravitate towards the underworld, where their ugly nature
can be more or less accepted and their nasty natures can be put
to good use. They have a reputation for duplicity, however, and
are little trusted.
Quick note:
The creation of Ghols rests solely on Bungie
Entertainment Software, from their Myth series of games. We
just liked them and changed them to fit our twisted wills.

D20 Stats
Species Traits:
- +2 Dexterity, -2 Intelligence,
-2 Charisma. Ghols are agile and well-coordinated, but tend to
be pea-brained and have the interpersonal skills of a surly cabbage.
- Small. As Small creatures,
Ghols gain a +1 size bonus to their Defense, a +1 size bonus
on attack rolls, and a +4 size bonus to Hide checks, but they
must use smaller weapons than Humans use, and their lifiting
and carrying limits are 3/4 that of Medium size creatures.
- Ghol base speed is 12 meters.
Ghols can lope at high speeds over huge distances, making them
natural scouts.
- Taunting. A ghol, by throwing
detritus and cheering, can act in such an irritating, disgusting
fashion that is enrages its opponents. An opponent must make
a Will save or fly into a beserk rage, attacking the ghol with
a +2 to attack rolls but a -4 to defense rolls.
- +2 racial bonus to thrown
weapons. Ghols are naturals at flinging things at people.
- +1 racial bonus to attack
rolls when using a cleaver.
- Automatic language: Gholish.
Ghols can not speak Basic without mechanical assistance, though
some can speak a form of Gamorrean.
Example Names: Squisher, Masher, Breaker, Snapper,
Pounder, Thresher, Smoocher
Favored Class: Scout
Adventurers: Ghol adventurers tend to be on the
lookout for work. Though they have little concept of money and
few practical skills, they readily sign on with mercenaries, smugglers,
or any place that doesn't require a signature or much intelligence.
Relatively few ghols are with the Alliance, as they have little
concept of a fight for any kind of cause besides grub. They can
be surprisingly quick-minded when it comes to their own self-interest,
however, and will work for just about anyone that will put up
with them.
New Weapon: Ghol Cleaver
The gholish "cleaver"
is a curved, vicious blade in common usage with the ghols. A ghol's
cleaver is a personal, unique object, that goes with them everywhere.
Their appearance varies, but they always have a bend or curve
somewhere along the blade. They are wielded like a sword.
d6 Stats: A cleaver uses the Melee Weapons: Cleaver
skill. It does STR+1d6-1 damage.
d20 Stats:
Damage 1d6+2, Crit 20, 2 kg., Size M, Slashing
An Abriged Ghol Dictionary
Note: This is a very
inaccurate dictionary, given the mutability of the ghol language.
These are just some of the more common vocalizations. Keep in
mind that some of these can be used interchangeably.
Rrurgh: Signifies happiness
Aroo: Signifies confusion,
or sometimes fright
Rur hur hur: A chuckle
Oogh: Signifies agreement
Raalp: An object the
ghol is speaking of
Urrr...: A general thinking
vocalization (something ghols often need to do even for basic
tasks)
