Stutter Gun-
Model: Kuat Defense Corp.'s "AckAck" Anti-starfighter battery Scale: Starfighter Fire Arc: Turret Skill: Starship Gunnery Fire Control: 0D Space Range: 1-3/12/25 Atmosphere Range: 100-300/1.2/2.5 km Rate of Fire: 3 (at no penalty in one round. Additional shots incur standard penalty) Damage: 3D per shot
Description: The Stutter gun is a type of anti-starfighter battery rapidly coming into use with independent navies and the Sector Rangers. It provides a much greater quantity of firepower than a standard laser cannon, at the cost of control and damage.
The AckAck appears as a circular barrel, with several small blaster cannons making up the cylinder. When in use, it rapidly rotates to provide each barrel a shot and cooldown time. In addition, the powered-down blaster bolts appear as yellow-orange to pale green.
Proton Surprise-
Model: No Formal Designation Scale: Character Fire Arc: Turret Skill: Starship Gunnery Fire Control: 1D Range: 3-10/20/35 Blast Radius: 1-2/3/5 Damage: 5D+2
Description: The "Proton Surprise" is a specialty of the VT2, as designed by Tu'ebb after the crew's stint in the Corporate Sector. It incorporates the technology behind the Proton Pack, and turns it into a ship defense weapon. Like the "surprise" weapons of smugglers galaxywide, it is in the form of a pop-down turret used to cover boarding and leaving under "interesting circumstances," i.e. being shot at. However, those familiar with this tactic are often alarmed by the sudden appearance of a snaking blast of energy laying waste to their ranks, and often retreat in confusion. It has yet to be used in a manner that would be considered effective; nearly all antagonists stupid enough to attack the VT2 are often scared off before any substansial harm is inflicted.
ABC Security System- Requires activation password Special: 5D stun damage to any unprotected targets that fail a Moderate Stamina check; 3D to those who succeed
Description: The ABC is a particularly vicious security system derived from a particularly vicious riot control weapon. The ABC launcher is the Star Wars version of tear gas; when launched, the pods emit a combination of gas irritants, hypersonics and flashing lights to leave their victims on the ground, unable to move because they can't decide to scratch their skin off, cover their ears or wipe the tears out of their eyes. Tu'ebb took this system and installed it on the Vorinna Tan. When activated, the entire ship is flooded with tear gas, a piercing shriek is emitted that temporarily deafens most humanoids and strobe lights break out. Most if not all of hostile boarders are repulsed by this "security overkill." The system is activated by either a control password sent from one of the crew's comlinks or when the system detects a breakin and a special deactivation code is not received. Needless to say, the ABC is the perfect way of making sure shipjackers stay the hell away from your ship.
Lasso-
Model: Kuat Fleet Systems "Lasso" Tow Line Type: Tow Line Scale: Starfighter Fire Arc: Front or Rear Skill: Starship Gunnery Fire Control: 2D Space Range: 1/2/3 Rate of Fire: 1 Damage: 0D/ Special
Description: The Lasso is a popular model of a common starfighter system: the tow line. Tow lines are, in effect, the "poor man's tractor beam;" a long, supertensile wire, connected to a magnetic projectile. Its main use is in hauling and salvage; a ship merely launches the lasso at its target, and when it connects, uses its engines to haul the target around. However, it has been put to many other creative uses by the denizens of the galaxy: space hobos and drifters often use them on small, hyperdrive-less pods, and travel from system to system by attaching to a large ship about to leave system (though hypering in this manner is dangerous and uncertain, such "leeches" are still major pests in large systems). They are popular with Space Guard cutters, which use the lasso to tow in derelict ships or adjust their orbits (it is a cheap alternative to tractor beams, and saves power for other uses). As they are small enough to be mounted on starfighters, they can even be used (with several fighters) to slow or stop enemy capital ships, or be used for a difficult maneuver known as the "Switchback," in which a ship uses its lasso to "pivot" around a small, free-floating object (a small asteroid does nicely) and change its direction sharply and unexpectedly (Game note: Requires Diff. Starship Piloting and Very Difficult Starship Gunnery, if sucessful ship can reverse direction in one round w/o loss of speed).
A lasso is very similar to a proton torpedo launcher, and can be fitted on any ship that can mount one of these (in fact, torpedo launchers can be modified to become lasso launchers). These launchers can only handle one tow line at a time, after which it takes 4 rounds to reel back in. This reeling in is too weak to tow back any target that resists, and the wire can be broken rather easily (2D Strength). If a target resists being pulled, the speed of being pulled back is determined by the difference of the two ship's Space ratings, and can be pooled with more ships (keeping in mind scale differences).
