Smuggler Prince

There is an often cliched comment made about Honor among Rogues. The truth is that this honor does exist, especially in the world of smugglers. Smugglers are often loners, relying on only themselves to make their illegal business and evade capture. This lonership emphasizes the individual skills of a smuggler; their abilities to evade detection or capture, their knowledge of how to manuever in the underworld, and their charm to convince both the authorities and their underworld peers of their worth and honesty (even if they have neither). Therefore, when a smuggler distinguishes himself with his abilities, it increases their prestige even more; they outstandingly succeed in their dangerous line of work alone, making them that much more intriguing. These individuals who stand out in the smuggling community are often known as Smuggler Princes.

Smuggler Princes are those smugglers who are fast enough, smart enough, and charismatic enough to become the best of the best. They often know the ins and outs of those they smuggle against, whether they be the forces of law or rival criminal organizations, and use that knowledge to full advantage to accomplish their duties. They are fast, nimble, and quick on their feet, and also manage to have a panache and style that sets them above many. They are the underworld figures that get stories about them; bar legends speak of the Prince who smuggled out riches from his wealthy and tyrannous patron's vault and gave them to the poor; of the Prince who exasperated an Imperial Moff with his solo shipping to a Rebel cell, leading the Moff to spend tons of resources to try and capture him; of the Prince who, when captured by Jabba the Hutt, told the slug to "Go to hell" and later escaped with his ship and cargo intact. Smuggler Princes often become pillars of their underworld communities; they are the ones to go to for the latest criminal tip, for advice on the hardest shipping runs, or the one who always gets the job done right. Many become minor crime lords, though the sedentary life rarely suits them; they are often on the move, participating in their own organization even as they run it. In any case, a Smuggler Prince is well known for his skills, his charisma, and his overall ability to be the pinnacle of the smuggler career. Some Smuggler Princes are: Talon Karrde, the infamous criminal luminary; Drake Paulsen, the "Little Prince of Socorro;" Mal Biron, the Shistavenan shipping director for Vigo Sprax; and Dex, the renaisance rogue who operates out of the Sisar Run.

Smuggler Prince Prestige Class (D20)

Requirements: Base Attack Bonus of +5, Skills (Pilot +4, Bluff +4, Hide +4, Diplomacy +4), Reputation of 5+

Vitality: 1D6
Skill Points: 8 + INT modifier
Class Skills: Appraise, Astrogate, Bluff, Computer Use, Disable Device, Diplomacy, Disguise, Escape Artist, Forgery, Gather Information, Hide, Knowledge, Listen, Move Silently, Pilot, Profession, Repair, Search, Sense Motive, Sleight of Hand, Spot

Features:

Skill Emphasis: A Smuggler Prince's career lies on three factors: his luck, his charm, and (most importantly) his skill at his job. At 1st and every other level, a smuggler prince will gain access to the bonus feat skill emphasis, with the focus chosen from this list: Appraise, Bluff, Diplomacy, Forgery, Hide, Pilot, and Sleight of Hand.

Chosen Foe: A Smuggler Prince's life is never easy. One is always being hounded by oppressive forces, whether they be the law, other criminal organizations, pirates, or what have you. A Smuggler Prince will often learn particular ways of dealing with, avoiding, and otherwise exasperating their foes as they go about their way of life. Starting a second level, a Smuggler Prince will select a chosen foe (examples include Imperials, the New Republic, Hutts, slavers, bounty hunters, etc) and gets a Foe bonus that is added to his Defense rolls and his Bluff, Intimidate, Forgery, Hide, Move Silently, and Pilot skills when facing against his chosen foe or minions thereof. The bonus increases every other level, except at 10th. The bonus can not be transferred once it is chosen.

A Favor Done Me: At 5th and 9th level, the Smuggler Prince gains the Call in a Favor special ability, as per the Noble special ability.

Evasion: Smuggler Princes are legendary in their abilities to stand up against intimidation, dodge capture, and otherwise escape hopeless situations. It is these incidents that spawn the bar stories of their prowess. At 4th level, once per adventure session, a Smuggler Prince may opt to add a +4 evasion bonus to the DC of a single Intimidate check used against him. The choice to do this must be made before the roll. At 7th level, this bonus can be added to one of the Smuggler Prince's Reflex saves instead of an Intimidate resist.

Smuggler Lord: At the peak of his career, a Smuggler Prince becomes true rogue nobility. Smuggler lords often go on to become powerful crime lords in their own right. At 10th level, a Smuggler Prince may add double his Charisma modifier to all Charisma checks.
