In my opinion, the zerg is the best race for island games. They have a fast, cheap and versatile air unit, the mutalisk. The mutalisk is a must for any zerg command in island games. Scout the map with the overlords and upgrade all abilities for overlords as soon as possible. You may want to focus the early game on making mass mutalisks to prevent enemy expansion and sieze control of the skies. Once you have a horde of the flying fiends, patrol possible expansion spots and stop any attempt to expand. This will make you control the game. Be wary of drop so construct sunkens around your base.

Expansions must be constructed as soon as mutalisks are handy. Make nydus canals in every expansion to transport units and especially hyras for defense. A couple of spore and sunken colonies will keep your base alive.

When attack in island games, you must have a good airforce. Mutas for offense and some guardians for towers and heavy assault. Morph in devourers only if the enemy focuses on capital ships. Ready you overlords for detection and drop hyralisks and zerglings on free spots once your mutas and guardians have cleared the way.

Make use of queens to scout and pester island border defenses. The goal is to keep your enemy from expand in island games to hinder him from using mass high level units. Expand like crazy, drop a drone or two in every resource spot and build a hatchery once resources are available and build creep colonies to secure the isalnd.
