POKEMON YELLOW:

SPECIAL PIKACHU VERSION

Pokemon Yellow is another version of the original Pokemon game, with new appearances and features including Team Rocket, and starting with Pikachu. This is a small guide on Pokemon Yellow, for those who are already familiar with the world of Pokemon.

Starting with Pikachu

One of the first differences you'll see is that Pikachu is now your starting Pokemon, while Gary starts with an Eevee.

Here's a guide on the different attacks of the Pokemon Yellow Pikachu and a normal Pikachu.

Exp. Level (Yellow) Exp. Level (Red/Blue) Attack
Start Start Thundershock
Start Start Growl
L6 N/A Tail Whip
L8 L9 Thunderwave
L11 L16 Quick Attack
L15 N/A Double Team
L20 N/A Slam
N/A L26 Swift
L26 N/A Thunderbolt
L33 L33 Agility
L41 L43 Thunder
L50 N/A Light Screen

Not only will Pikachu learn new attacks, it refuses to get in the Pokeball, so that when you "talk" to it, it will show you one of its emotions. The more you have Pikachu on your team, the happier Pikachu is. Also, if you want a Raichu, you'll have to trade for one, since your Pikachu will refuse to evolve.

Gary, on the other hand, does evolve his Eevee. This depends on how you did in two specific matches. If you...

Lose to Gary in the first match, then Gary's Eevee will be a Vaporeon.

Beat Gary in the first match and the match to the west of Viridian City, (he'll battle you twice, but the once at the beginning of the game is commonly missed) then he'll have a Jolteon at the end.

Beat Gary in the first match, but lose in the match to the west of Viridian City, then he'll get a Flareon.

Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle

At points in the game, these three Pokemon will be offered to you.

Bulbasaur - You have to keep Pikachu very happy, and then visit the house to the left of Cerulean City's Pokemon Center (the house where you usually trade for a Jynx). The girl there will give you a Bulbasaur.

Charmander - This one's easy. Just go north of Nugget Bridge, and a guy there will give you a Charmander.

Squirtle - You have to earn the Thunderbadge if you want a Squirtle. Just get the 3rd badge and talk to a girl standing in Vermillion City to receive a Squirtle.

New Catches

Pokemon Yellow combines Red and Blue, so that there will be Pokemon from both versions present. No, you can't catch all 150 in Yellow, but some Pokemon that are traded for like Lickitung and Lapras will appear in the wild. Lickitung will be in Unknown Dungeon basement now, and you can find Lapras if you fish at the some locations.

Here's the list of Pokemon you can't get in Yellow.

Weedle/Kakuna/Beedrill

Ekans/Arbok

Meowth/Persian

Koffing/Weezing

Jynx

Electabuzz

Magmar

The rest you can obtain at some point in the game.

Team Rocket

Team Rocket appears several times in the game, making their debut to Ash at the exit of Mt. Moon. Their Pokemon will be Ekans, Koffing, and Meowth, and they'll pop up when you expect to meet Rocket Members such as in the Pokemon Tower.

The new Colosseum 2 feature includes the Poké Cup, Pika Cup, and Petit Cup.

PIKA CUP - L15 to L20 Pokemon only! Their combined Exp. Level limit is 50.

PETIT CUP - This one is the most restricting challenge of them all: They must be between L25 to L30, and all your Pokemon must be under 6'8", and weigh less than 44 pounds!

SURFING PIKACHU!

NP suscribers may already know that there in a Surfing Pikachu in the yellow version. To obtain it, you have to enter a Nintendo Power contest. There is a minigame especially for the Surfing Pikachu, and I'm expecting that there will be probably be code to unlock this creature. Yes, the surfing Pikachu do battle. Its attacks include both Electric types and Water types.
