Notes
0. The location listed is the first place that you may encounter such an
enemy. Many enemies can be found elsewhere. If a monster's stats
change between possible battles they are listed for each time they are
different. Any other significant changes are noted below.
1. The first time you can encounter ProtoArmor is in the Imperial Base
after the airship lands at Vector. It attacks with Mega Armor. This
formation will not appear on the Veldt as Mega Armor will not appear
on the Veldt ever. You cannot encounter ProtoArmor on the Veldt until
you fight it in Vector, be it in front of the castle or in the Magitek
Research Facility. Please note that even though ProtoArmor appears on
the Veldt, you can never Rage it. See Note 8.
2. There is no note 2.
3. Four different monsters are called Mag Roader. These are listed in
the order: Large Purple, Small Red, Large Yellow, and Small Brown.
13. We've skipped the previous number, because we believe it is unlucky,
and should not even be typed. This number is located here, because
this is where it's found in the list. However, we discovered this
last, hence the high number. There are four different monsters called
Tentacle. See Note 9.
4. The Ninja is first encountered in the cave to the Sealed Gate when you
pull a switch. You cannot encounter him on the Veldt until you fight
him randomly on the Floating Continent. We're not exactly sure of
this.
5. You fight the Sr Behemoth twice in the Cave on the Veldt. First you
fight his live form, which is grey, then you are attacked from behind
by his orange undead form. You can only encounter the undead form on
the Veldt.
5.5. We didn't have a Note 2, so we had to put this in to make the number
of relevant notes balance out. We didn't do this intentionally, but
once we figured out what we'd done, we thought it was funny, so we
kept it this way. Ha, ha, bet you're laughing now. Or more probably,
you're getting sick of this and think this is really lame. So do we.
This will be taken out in the next version. Oh, we almost forgot the
actual note! You can only fight Shadow here if you waited for him on
the floating continent. We know you know this, but we had to make
sure you knew we knew this. Editor's Note: Do not take Gogo to fight
Shadow. He may mimic Shadow and attack himself. This is not
effective.
6. Editor's Other Note: Fight Nightshade *BEFORE * you fight Chadarnook.
If you do not, you will not be able to fight them at all, thus
ensuring the incompleteness of your Rage list. Have a nice day.
7. There are two monsters called Chadarnook. The lady is listed first
and the demon second.
8. You cannot Rage Pugs even though they show up on the Veldt. They will
not show up in Gau's Rage list.
9. There are four different monsters named Hidonite. They are
fundamentally different except for the name. We will determine which
Hidonite is in which position in a later version. (The next time one
of us reaches that point in the game.)
10. The party that enters on the left will fight the statue on the left,
Doom. The party that enters in the middle will fight the statue on
the right, Goddess. The party that enters on the right will fight
the statue in the middle, Poltergeist. Editor's Note: When fighting
Goddess, make sure to equip as many Safety Bits as possible.
11. The Esperoid is really nine monsters on three levels. Listed in order
they refer to the Upper monster on the first screen, the Lower Right
on the first screen, the Lower left on the first screen, the Lower on
the second screen, the Upper Right on the second screen, the Upper on
the second screen, the Upper Left on the second screen, the Left on
the third screen, and the Right on the third screen. This does not
much matter for this list, but this order is the standard for any
other lists we may make.
Parenthetical Monsters
Monsters with names in parentheses have no actual names listed in the game.
We have them up for convenience sake. The names usually describe the monster.
Terrain Types
Certain monsters in an overworld area will only attack you in certain types of
terrain. We have defined these as Forest, Desert, and Plain. On mountains,
some monsters only attack in the caves on the mountain. This is noted in the
location. The same applies with the Cave to the Ancient Castle.
Reason for this list
This list lists the monsters in FF3 in the order that you encounter them in
the game. The ones that Gau can Rage are noted. The monsters are listed in
this sequence, so you know what you can get when and don't waste time looking
for monsters that aren't there. In order for Gau to Rage a monster, you must
encounter it at least once outside the Veldt. You do not actually have to
defeat it.
?????
There are certain "mysteries" in this game, that may be false, but we are not
completely sure yet. They are:
Drop: We found it! And there was much rejoicing. Yay, yay! It does exist.
Both of us have seen this thing. It is a green version of Trapper and Junk
found in the Engine Room of Figaro Castle as stated above. We [think we]
have everything now! This is a good thing.
Siegfried? and Chupon: Also we have seen Siegfried (this is always the
spelling that appears in battle) and Chupon in the Rage list in the
aforementioned FAQ. I know what you're thinking. You're really pissed off
that anyone even suggested such a thing. Well, they're listed there. It may
be possible that if you defeat them in the Colosseum (yes it is possible at
extremely high levels) they would show up on the Veldt, but we have no
evidence that this is so and do not want to be starting any rumors. WE BELIEVE
THIS TO JUST BE A SICK JOKE. Our theory is that in those two slots were meant
for ProtoArmor and Pugs. These do appear on the Veldt, but Gau cannot seem to
learn them even if they are Leapt. We assume this to be a bug in the game
itself. It may also be akin to the Cursed Ring Syndrome, in which different
versions of the game behave differently. We don't know. Contact us with any
information.
Explanation of Monster Types
Random: A monster that attacks at random, it cannot attack when the Moogle
Charm is equipped.
Boss: A monster that can be encountered at a certain point in the game,
usually of superior strength to Random enemies. The battle ends when
it is killed.
Henchman: A monster that attacks with a Boss, but whose death does not end
the battle.
Event: A monster that attacks when a certain event occurs, not necessarily
of superior strength, and not necessarily mandatory.
Monster-in-a-box: A non-mandatory monster that attacks when the chest
containing it is opened. It must be defeated in order to win a
treasure (if any) and may not be run from.
Set: A monster that attacks at set places during a computer-controlled event,
i.e. Lete River, Serpent Trench, Magitek Factory cart ride; not
necessarily of superior strength.
Visible: A monster that can be seen and possibly avoided.
Dragon: One of the eight dragons in the World of Ruin that must be defeated
to get the Crusader Esper.
Statue: One of the three statues that block the way to the top of Kefka's
Tower.
Esperoid: The three-story monster underneath Kefka.
Antagonist: The Boss of the Game.
Explanation of Trips to the Veldt
The list is divided up into the five trips to the Veldt with Gau depicted
below. Monsters that are found before each trip are separated from other
trips by dashed lines.
