Meanwhile, back at the palace, in Jafar’s secret laboratory, the evil vizier was using the Sultan’s Mystic Blue Diamond for a far different purpose than he had stated. Instead of finding a suitor for the Princess, Jafar was using the gem to find the "diamond in the rough" that he needed to enter the Cave of Wonders. Jafar placed the ring between the fangs of two facing golden snake heads that formed the top of a large hourglass. Iago was running in place on a treadmill, which turned a small lightning generator. As Iago ran faster, a red cloud swirled above them. Lightning formed and struck the diamond. Jafar screamed in delight as sand began to whirl around inside the glass. He commanded the sand to reveal the one who could enter the Cave of Wonders. As the sand settled, an image formed: Aladdin and Jasmine on a rooftop in the Agrabah marketplace.
