Since this website is The House of Koloth I will start off my review of Blaze of Glory cards with Koloth my internet persona. After all it is Koloth's image holding aloft the Bat'leth on the Blaze of Glory expansion packs. Let's take a look at d'akturak as Curzon Dax called him.

What does my venerated namesake have to offer the great Klingon Empire. Of the three elderly Klingon's from Blood Oath he probably has the least to offer but none the less he does have skills that can be very useful in the right deck. He is certainly worth considering even if he doesn't make the final cut for some decks. Let's evaluate what he does have to offer.

One thing that stands out to me is his Attributes. While no one attribute is exceptionally high, Koloth does have a very solid attribute total. While an 8 INTEGRITY for a Klingon is not unusual with 15 at that number there is only one Klingon with a greater INTEGRITY and that is none other than Kahless himself. His CUNNING of 7 puts him on the high end of average and STRENGTH of 8 again doesn't by itself set him apart but when all attributes are taken together, very few Klingons can match or exceed his combined attributes of 23. This in and of itself would not cause him to be placed in a deck but it sure doesn't hurt if he is going to be in it anyway.

Koloth's skills do fit in with three Klingon mission solving deck types and I will discuss each with the appropriate skill. He becomes the second Klingon to have Diplomacy at x2. With his addition to the Empire I believe that it would be possible to build a Klingon Diplomacy deck for a new twist. Don’t forget that the Klingons do have a Diplomacy mission specialist. At any rate Diplomacy x2 will come in handy at getting by dilemmas like Shaka, When the Walls Fell, Armus - Sticky Situation and Nagilum. When added to a battle deck he can be invaluable at getting through Q-Net’s if you have an opponent designing his deck to be anti-battle. With Blaze of Glory don’t be surprised if we start seeing more Q-Nets being used to slow down this on the rise popular strategy.

Exobiology is probably is most valuable basic skill. Koloth becomes only the fourth Klingon to carry this skill. Normally Klingon decks have to resort to N/A for extra Exobiology. With all the nasty dilemma like Coalescent Organism, Odo’s Cousin and Garak Has Some Issues that requiring Exobiology you will find Koloth is a great boost for the Empire especially if you want to use Empok Nor for downloading personnel. This skill also fits well into the old Klingon Bio-Medical deck. Missions requiring Biology or Medical often require Exobiology as well.

Honor of course is one of the skills that Klingons have in abundance. Koloth is no exception. Thus he will fit well into a Klingon Honor deck, which is my personal favorite mission focus. Again with Exobiology and Diplomacy he will make an excellent addition to this deck to help overcome dilemmas and provide extra Honor especially for Wormhole Negotiations. His honor will also allow him to benefit from Honor Challenge, Klingon Death Yell, Qapla’! and Kahlest.

His special download skill is by far the most valuable. This legendary Klingon warrior can download a Bat’leth. With capturing and Alpha Jem’hadar this weapon is going to be more valuable and will give you an incentive to get involved in personal battle. Need a quick strength boost for a mission, dilemma or battle? No problem just download it to Koloth. With it he makes the perfect Klingon to solve Bat’leth tournament. Use several and seed Sword of Kahless under the first one and what a prize you have gained for the Tournament. Go on to a couple more Tournaments and you have just and you can get a 3 mission win.

Koloth also has the special Nemisis Icon for Blood Oath and A Good Place to Live. A deck could probably be built around his icon. Throw Koloth’s Blood Oath Brethren, Kang, Kor and Jadzia and you have a theft proof Klingon mission worth 50 points. Don’t underestimate Blood oath either and ways to do bad things to your opponent.

Finally there is one other point to mention of Koloth and that is he will be the matching commander to the I.K.C. Gro’th. While this ship does not yet exist, Decipher has made it pretty clear that it will be released in a future set since Blood Oath's and Koloth's lore and game texts both make reference to it.

My overall assesment of Koloth is that he is a nice card with several uses. However, you may not want to include him in every deck. Hopefully this review of him will help you decide when you should use him and when you probably wont need him. All-in-all a very solid card that can be a great support personnel for any Klingon deck. As an aside I personally love the image for this card. Of the legendary Klingons I think his image is the best.

Until next time.

Qapla'!
