With all the cool Klingon cards in Blaze of Glory it is tough to know what order cards should be reviewed in. I have decided to review a ship this time around. The ship is the I.K.C. Koraga. It was the ship Worf was commanding in the episode in DS9's seventh season when he became MIA in the Badland causing Ezri Dax to go searching for him and to search her feelings for him. This card was the surprise that caught my eye when I first saw it. So let's get started.
So what is so special about this ship? After all it is another Unique K'Vort Class ship. Well this one has a lot going for it. For a K'Vort it is pretty standard. It has a RANGE of 7 which is descent. Well better than those sluggard Jem'Hadar Attack Ships anyway. With WEAPONS of 8 it is a superior attack ship for the Klingons especially for a K'Vort. Only the K'Ratak can sport equivalent weapons on this class ship. SHIELDS are a bit weak though at 6. While game play wise this is a bit of a drawback, I think it makes sense because the ship was destroyed by the Jem'Hadar even though Worf was in command. Over all, I think its statistics make it a solid ship especially with those WEAPONS of 8.
The next thing that sets it apart for me is that Worf Son of Mogh is it matching commander. To me this fits in with my decks very well because I usually have him in my deck anyway since he helps get you around Berserk Changeling. With Captain's Log in play that brings the ships statistics up to [7] [11] [9], which is pretty spiffy if you ask me. Throw in Bynar's Weapon Enhancement or Tactical Console and you have a K'Vort just bristling with Weapons. The Tactical Console fits in well since Worf Son of Mogh is a SECURITY Classification personnel with Leadership.
Next up and important to my armadas is staffing. Like all other K'Vorts it requires only a single silver star to staffing which makes it perfect for use with Empok Nor. After you commandeer Empok Nor just download the Koraga to Docking Ports via Ops and play Ready Room Door to download Worf Son of Mogh to the Koraga. Not only have you a staffed ship all in one turn but Worf Son of Mogh is great for defending your Nor from unwanted guests with his high STRENGTH.
The equipment for the Koraga is what clinched it for me. Pretty standard Cloaking Device and Tractor beam. These are great and usually needed at one time or another but what about that bonus it sports. If with the I.K.C. Rotarran both ships are RANGE +1. Are you doubtful? Well look at it this way. Your armada is constrained by the speed of its slowest ship, which is generally the I.K.C. Rotarran. Well with the ships I use it is the Rotarran at RANGE 7. It is a forgone conclusion that 95% of the time you are using Martok and the Rotarran in your armada anyway so why not give your entire armada a speed boost by using the Koraga. My experience has been that 8 Range can make a huge difference in getting to an opponent's Outpost or chasing down a fleeing ship. I had wished from the get go that the Rotarran had a RANGE of 8 and well Decipher granted it with this special skill.
This little ship packs a lot of bonus that make it a must have for my Klingon armada. With Worf as commander, high WEAPONS and a range boost this ship will go straight from the booster pack into my Klingon Empok Nor deck. It is really a superior ship for your armada, but don't forget to install the Pulse Disruptors. Long live the Empire.
Qapla'!
