Romulan Geological Society
Return to Farpoint - Stage 1 Deck

This is my Return To Farpoint - Stage 1 tournament winning deck. It started out as a Non-Aligned deck. However as I built it became apperent quickly that the Romulans were the best support for my Geology focus as I was planning on using Barclay's Protomorphosis Disease to acquire a some Bonus points quickly and speed up the deck. You probably will not want to take this deck to a regular constructed tournament as is but it may give you some ideas for your own deck building.

I know this isn't a Klingon deck but Duras, Lursa and B'Etor were known to have dealings with the Romulans from time to time. Also there is a Klingon in this deck. Keep an eye out for him and see if you can figure out all the reasons I included him why I included him.

Strategy:

For RTF - Stage 1 I went with dilemmas that were designed to delay my opponent as long as possible. The Edo Probe discouraged early Red-Shirting through the dilemmas. This work very well as most of my opponents decided to abandon the attempt for fear of losing 10 points. Zaldan was just to nasty a dilemma not to use as it targets Diplomacy and is a wall. These combos worked well enough to prevent 4 of my 5 opponents from scoring.

Seeding is important to this deck. I seeded two of the Barclay/Sarjenka combos under the missions I planned to place my Outposts. I did this for quick access to the points so my opponent would accidentally gain them or trigger them before I could get to them. Using three of these combos gives you 45 points allowing you to solve 2 Geological Survey's to win with 5 points left over to cover a The Higher the Fewer.

Note that this deck is focused on Vekor and Jaron/Roga Danar. Vekor provided SCIENCE and MEDICAL while Jaron and Roga provides SECURITY. These three personnel will give you 7 of each of the Classifications needed to pass Barclay's Protomorphosis Disease and pretty much garantees that you will have all three in your opening hand. Report one of each and immediately attempt a mission with the bonus combo beneath. Barclay's Proto Disease should be first which with Vekor and Jaron you will pass with ease. Next you will encounter Sarjenka and Vekor being the compassionate woman that she is will make the team stop to help scoring an additional 5 points. Use a ship to move to the other Bonus combos and repeat process.

Use the Events and Interrupts to frustrate your opponent and slow him down. The Brain Drains are in this deck to make sure your opponent will loose 10 points to Edo Probe and to prevent your opponent from stealing your missions. They are your best defense if you get a really bad draw and are short a ship. Report personnel until you have 3 Geology personnel which with 13 in this deck shouldn't be long. Use Full Planet Scans and Red Shirts to sucessfully get around the dilemms. The 3 Geology will increase the points you score from 20 to 30. Remember with the Bonus points you will have you will only need to solve two Surveys to win. If your opponent tries to steal your missions they will likly only get 20 points for there trouble unless they have stocked a lot of Geology or Greed. Remember to get a Computer Skill Personnel in play before you solve. To bad Jaron has Youth instead of Computer Skill.

This deck work better and faster than I thought it would. The only real trouble I had was in the last game when I had to go through half my draw deck to get a ship. I still ended up winning 100 to 50 right at the buzzer.

This deck could be easily upgraded to use in a regular constructed tournament. Have fun with it.
