Newbie Linux user does installation!


Hello I've been using linux for a few weeks by now. Installation of software is really pain in
the you know where....    :D
Problem is most of guide to install/configure was done by people who've been using linux very
long and are expert of it. And they tend to make shortcut by saying do this or do that without
commands, therefore confusing for newbies like me...  >:O
That's why I decided to put everything I install on my linux.

This is small info of my computer and distro type:
Compaq presario 705US laptop
        AMD 1GH 3D Now
        256MB RAM
        20GB Hard Drive
I'm using right now Mandrake 9.0 - I gave up Red Hat 8.0 for its lack of menu control
