Elizabeth's third month has been absolutely my favorite, so far. She has grown so much and become such a little person! It's been amazing. We are afraid to look away for even a moment in fear that we'll miss something incredible. This month, Elizabeth rolled over from tummy to back for the first time and - by golly - Ashley's mother had her camera in her hand at that moment and actually caught it! In addition to her new repertoire of physical abilities, Elizabeth found her voice this month and has not stopped babbling, gurgling, and....whining....since. Ha ha. It's hilarious. She will now do her entire store of verbal sounds before resorting to crying, and she is so expressive in the face that we can tell exactly what she wants, now. With every new development, I am amazed at how lucky we are to have such a well-adjusted, healthy, and calm child. She truly is an angel. The only other development of note this month is that Elizabeth has lost any tolerance for being left out of eye-shot of Ashley, me, or her Grandmum Nix. In fact, she's been known to pitch fits if she gets left in her bouncy seat while we eat dinner. She demands to sit at table with the family. It's very cute (except when I'm trying to eat one-handed). Anyway, here are the 3rd-month pictures. Enjoy!

Health:

Lizzie had her first case of diaper rash, but it cleared up after two days of Desitin.
Still suffering from chronic painful gassiness & constipation. This usually hits at night when she’s trying to sleep. She’s already tired and cranky, so the bubbles in her stomach are really frustrating for her. The simethicone gas drops help but they don’t completely stop the problem.
Elizabeth caught a case of the sniffles with a cough in the third week of this month. We ran a steam vaporizer for three nights, and that helped a LOT. The little cold cleared up in about a week.

Visiting:

Third Road Trip: On November 6th, we will be leaving for Denver to meet Elizabeth’s two “Auntie” Jessica’s and attend the US Marine Corps Ball.

Eating Habits:

Nestle Good Start Supreme Formula
6 ounces per feeding
Regularly eats 24 ounces + per day
Lizzie has completely weaned herself from nursing. We had hoped to breastfeed through the 6th month, but our daughter has no patience for it.

Sleeping Habits:

Lizzie sleeps through almost every night. About once per week, she wakes up at 5 or 6am for a bottle, but most of the time she will sleep straight from 10 or 11pm to about 7am.
Lizzie has absolutely no daytime sleep pattern at all. Sometimes she takes little catnaps all day. Sometimes she takes one or two longer naps. Sometimes, she stays up and alert all day long. You never can tell with her...but she always goes down for the night around 10 or 11pm.

Development:

Elizabeth found her voice and is babbling non-stop, now. She makes several different sounds and occasionally mixes consonant sounds and verb sounds. She also gurgles and “razzes.”
She is a bit behind in upper-body development according to Dr. Hu. She is capable of pushing up to 90 degrees when on her tummy, but she rarely attempts it. At this stage, it should be easy for her to do. Elizabeth cannot stand being placed on her stomach for tummy time, and she would rather whine and yell(and cry if necessary) until we relent and put her back “right side up” than try to do her exercises and push-ups.
Lizzie rolled over from tummy-to-back this month for the first time! She was looking at (and talking to) a picture of Tigger on her crib bumper, and she wanted to get at it so badly that she rolled herself over.

We took Lizzie out to her first movie in early October. We watched "Pirates of the Caribbean," with Legolas and Johnny Depp (Yes, I know his real name is Orlando...not Legolas...but I'll never see him as anything else. Besides, what the heck kind of name is Orlando, anyway? **Extra side note: No offense to any of the world's Orlandos; I'm sure there are lots of you and that you're a very fine sort of people, but you have to admit that Legolas is a much cooler name). At any rate, Elizabeth missed all but the previews because she slept soundly throughout the film - waking only when the credits began to roll. Elizabeth first rolled over on October 26th. Her first Halloween, of course, was on the 31st. We dressed her in an adorable Halloween sleeper and headband with kitty ears that said "Spooky Cat." The outfit was part of a lovely gift from my former boss and his family.
