"A certain Lord Hutchinson mentioned a very recent instance (February, 1811), of a man who had been 30 years in the Guards; and , his conduct there having been irreproachable, and who there, because he had been absent a day, had at the age of sixty, been sentenced to receive 300 lashes, and had the full sentence actually inflicted on him.  From G.R. Scott's Flagellation: The Story of Corporal Punishment.   Depicted is a typical British Army "flogging at the halberds".  Two men will apply the lashes, alternating after 20 to 25 strokes have been inflicted.
