CONTENTS

Describe the program structure: (ex: 10 games that provide practice in word attack skills at 3-5 difficulty levels, 15-20 minutes to complete a lesson) and give a two or three paragraph description of the program. Describe what the user actually sees on screen and does when using the program. Use as much space as necessary(use back of page for extra space).

Cite the page numbers(if any) in the documentation that contain a step-by-step description of what the learner sees and does from beginning to end.

By clicking and exploring, the user will hunt for coins in the playful, fun-filled Jungle Cafe. When they find a coin they can then choose from three different games.  While playing children will learn the alphabet, letter recognition, beginning phonics, reading readiness, and simple words and spelling.  This program is easy enough for a two and a half year child to use.
Letter Hip Hop:(Explore Mode) When you click a letter J.J. says the letter, displays an object that starts with that letter, and a word that describes the picture appears.  (Challenge Mode) J.J. displays a picture of an object and asks you to click the letter that the object starts with.
Jingle Bebop:(Explore Mode) When you click a letter J.J. displays an illustration of an alliterative sentence that starts with that letter. The sentence is sung in a call-and-response fashion. (Challenge Mode) J.J. says a letter and a picture appears in his dome. An alliterative sentence about the picture is displayed and is sung twice. The user must choose the letter.
Word Do-Wop: (Explore Mode) This game shows the user how letters come together to make words. Click the letters of your choice to form three-letter words. J.J. dims and disables letters that will not correctly form words with the letteres already chosen. After the user spells the word, J.J. says the word you spelled. (Challenge Mode) J.J. displays a letter and asks the user to click the mathing letter. By following J.J.'s instructions the user spells words.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

How many learner objectives are stated? Where are they stated?

5 learner objectives are stated on the box and in the parents on-line guide

APPROACH

In what follows, consider: adequacy and amount of information provided, instructional frames, educational activities, practice items, feedback, clarity, and accuracy:

Please add any comments you feel are necessary to explain or qualify any of the choices you expressed, above:
The only thing I was unhappy with was a way to keep track of the progress a student makes and the program didn't allow the user to create words on their own for J.J. to correct.

ANALYST'S SUMMARY

How much preparation time would an experienced teacher(experienced with both computers and the subject area) need to use this program? Explain:

It would take about 2-3 hours to get the full feel of this program and make an evaluation on its effectiveness in a instructional setting.

Please list the numbers of the statements above that best represent the major STRENGTHS of this program (maximum of 5). Address all areas: content, approach, etc. Add any additional explanations that you feel are necessary to clarify these statements (ex: give an example) OR to describe a major strength that does not fit into any of the statements above:

1) APPROPRIATENESS FOR USERS SPECIFIED BY PRODUCER
 2)CLARITY 3)TECHNICAL QUALITY 4)APPROACH 5)AUDIO

Please list the numbers of the statements above that best represent the major WEAKNESSES of this program (maximum of 5). Address all areas: content, approach, etc. Add any additional explanations that you feel are necessary to clarify these statements (ex: give an example) OR to describe a major weakness that does not fit into any of the statements above:

1)RECORDS/MANAGEMENT
2)EVALUATION 3)DOCUMENTATION

In order of priority, list up to 5 tips that teachers will find most useful in using this program:

1) If the program is left idle for a few minutes J.J. falls asleep and snores. Kids like to wake him up and he has a suprise for them when they do. Kids seem to get mouse crazy when using the program. As they move the mouse J.J.'s eyes mimick the movement. Therefore students must be instructed not to over play the mouse or they will wear it out.

OVERALL RATING OF THE PROGRAM

Please CIRCLE the appropriate rating:(highlighted in red)

The following categories should be used in determining your overall rating of the program. They are not exhaustive but suggest the areas you should consider in making your judgments. All items may not be appropriate to use in rating all programs. Consider the scope and intended purpose of the program (ex: it may be inappropriate to penalize a simulation that has no management system):

Please justify your rating: This program is extermly fun to use. It is loaded with animations, digitized speech and sing along activities. The jungle jukebox is a moving, talking, musical friend that guides the user through all the activities. The technical qulity of the software is top notch. The content and different methods used to obtain the stated goals and objectives are all age appropriate and work wonderfully.
