Magic comes in many forms in this land. It appears to be primarially a force controlled by the will of thought, though there are also forms of magic which appear to be unrelated to thought or spirits. Mages Spellbook Mages Spellbook mage is a somewhat deragatory term. It is what true mages call those who can't perform magic on their own. Most spellbook mages perform simple subtle magic charms, but some can summon powerful forces to their will, usually by summoning a powerful being and bribing it. Wizards Wizards, are believed to be one of the most formidable practicioners of magic. They can use spells, enchantments, rituals, alchemy, pretty much any magic other than psionic and clerical forms. Simply put, in the eyes of the common man a wizard is the embodiment of magical power. Clerics Not all clerics have access to magical abbilities, but those who do believe that they derive their power from their diety and their faith, the power they use isn't entirely theirs to control. Psionists Psionists have the largest variation in the degree of power available. The vast majority have minor powers, some so subtle that their existence is deniable, but the select few, called psions, have power so incredible that they could be called gods or demons. Alchemists/Artificers Alchemists and artificers study the magical properties inherent in different subtances and their abbilities to store magics applied to them. By mixing substances and applying magic they can create a variety of useful potions, tools, and other items. Tools of the Trade Spellbooks & Scrolls Spellbooks are simply books filled with spells. Scrolls are like pages from a spellbook, with the proper skills and tools they allow a mage to cast a spell. Songs Some mages use songs to guide and control their magic. Foci Foci are any object used by a mage to help channel their thoughts and energies, to assist in performing magic. Typical foci include staves, amulets, crystals, gems, and wands. Reagents Reagents are similar to foci, but they are consumed in the casting of the magic. Reagents include herbs, minerals, body parts, and other substances. Magic Items Potions Potions are magically enchanted fluids that when drunk or poured, release their power to cause a magical effect. The most common kinds are potions of healing, sleep, cures for poisions and toxins, and strength. Enchanted Catalysts Enchanted catalyst is what an alchemist would call a magically enchanted object that channels energy through it without altering the enchantment on itself. These include rings, weapons, and just about any object you can imagine. Stored Spells Items that contain an enchantment which is dispelled when used. |
