"Yesterday I got so old, I felt like I could die..."
--In Between Days, The Cure
As a Capricorn, I firmly believe that In Between Days is the best Cure song ever. Or at least according to the Onion horoscopes I do. It's because I'm a Capricorn. I don't actually feel that way, but its a pretty damn good one. The problem is, In Between Days has to be the worst music video in the history of music videos, no holds barred. That kinda sucks. Oh well.
You know what else sucks? Being sick over break. I've had a 102 degree fever the last few days, which has since been phased out in favor of a sore throat. Grr. I missed seeing all my friends >i>twice and a Bad Religion show. Tomorrow I should be going outside again. What timing. Well, at least I get to see Akane. That's a good thing.
How the hell do you make a movie about Vietnam after Full Metal Jacket and Good Morning Vietnam? They were brilliant. Sheer bloody poetry. It was mentioned on Beat the Geeks the other day that WWII is the most popular war to make movies about. Why? Because the war itself is easily approachable. Although individuals on both sides ran the gamut of human behavior, the war itself can be seen as a goodguy/badguy type deal. With Vietnam, the ambiguity of the war is half the point. No one will ever capture that as well as those films did. Without that point, a 'Nam movie might as well take place in any war - thus, the glut of WWII films.
I want a movie mainly about a heroic German soldier during WWII. Why is he so heroic? Because he protects the Fatherland (heroically) and slays invading Russians and Americans (also heroically). Booyah. He gets the blonde-haired blue-eyed chick at the end.
Speaking of heroic Germans, Nietzsche rocks. And the more Nietzsche I read, the more certain I am of one thing:
Jack Fan has read not a single word of Nietzsche's writings.
You heard me. He reads it the way that the Cliff's Notes people do, like being stupid was their job. Sigh. If only I had known then. The fun I could have had.
