EarthBound Tips & Tricks
- Chicken farm - Here is a trick to make a profit of $98 or $110. First either buy an egg from anywhere or steal one from Happy Happy Village. After awhile the egg will turn into a Chick and then a Chicken. Use the For Sale Sign or sell it somewhere for $110. Repeat as often as you want.
- Mushroom picking - If you get a mushroom on your head from fighting an enemy take it to a healer. He will give you $50 for it. You get money, and relief!
- Broken Spray Can repair job - This trick will give you a profit of $61 or $250. When Jeff is in your party, buy a Broken Spray Can. Sleep at a place that you can sleep for free (like Saturn Valley) so the BSC will be fixed and become the Defense Spray, which can be sold for $250. Repeat as often you want.
- Getting paid to shut up - In Hotel Twoson there is a guy hanging out near the rooms. Talk to him and keep talking to him. (He says a different thing each time.) Eventually, he will give you $50 to get a life. This trick only works only once.
- Just a spoonful of sugar (or delisauce) helps the Rock Candy go down - If you found a Rock Candy on your adventures buy a Sugar Packet. During battle you can have someone eat the Rock Candy with the sugar and that person will gain 2 in any random attribute. Note: The Players' Guide says you can use it as many times as you want, but for me, after one or two uses of it, it's gone.
- Power up from Atomic & Nuclear Powered Robots - When you are fighting an Atomic or Nuclear Powered Robot, have Poo mirror it. If he succeeds, he will randomly max-out an ally's HP. He will also occasionally shoot useless beams. The other down side is that you cannot control whose HP he will max out.
- Easy, yet full of experience - Fobbys, Foppys, and both kinds of caterpillars are very easy to beat and give tons of Exp. Caterpillars can be found in both deserts, but you find them rarely.
- Neutrilizer vs. Shield Killer - They do basically the same things, yet which one do you use? The Shield Killer kills the enemy's shield and doesn't work all the time. The Neutrilizer kills the enemies' shields all of the time, but also removes shields from your characters. It is up to you to decide which to use. (I use the Neutrilizer.)
- Screen your enemies - If you want to avoid a battle you can use this trick. When you see the enemy or enemies walk away from them until they are off of the screen. Re-enter the area. If there are still enemies you can do it again.
- Fighting Powered Robots, Spheres, and Trees are bad for your health - If you see one of those enemies, do NOT fight it; use the screen trick (see above) if you can. If you destroy one of them, it will blow up in your face. If you end up in a fight with it, destroy the other enemies and RUN AWAY.
- Stick around the magic butterfly rooms - In parts of the game there are rooms with only a magic butterfly in it. Use Lifeup to max-out everyones HP and get the butterfly. Exit and re-enter the room to get another one. Repeat until everyone's PP is maxed-out. Note: Sometimes when you enter there won't be a butterfly. Just exit and re-enter.
- Paralysis Power - On some enemies and bosses you can use Paralysis on them and then just bash them away. These include Mondo Mole! and the Kraken.
- Flash for a victory - If you have Flash Beta (the "b" looking one) or over, you can use it on Plague Rat of Doom, Thunder & Storm, or Carbon Dog. There is a chance (depending on which Flash spell you used) that it will defeat the boss instantly.
- Attack and run - If there is an enemy and you don't want to fight and you can't use the screen trick on it, then try to sneak attack him/her/it. If you get the green attack you can successfully run away. This trick will always work on the first attack of the battle ONLY.
- Magicant stuff - In Magicant you should buy two earth pendants (one for each person besides Poo that does not have a pendant equipped (the other person has the Sea Pendant)). Buy lots of Magic Pudding, which is the third most powerful PP restoring item (the first and second being the Brain Food Lunch and the Magic Truffle). Have Tracy store these items for later use.
- Diamond Dog, destroyed fast - Before you enter Fire Spring buy a couple of Multi-Bottle Rockets for Jeff. When you fight Diamond Dog kill his shield and fire both rockets. After that he will have very few hit points left (if any).
- Don't believe everything you read - If you are referring to the Players' Guide, then you may notice that there are several mistakes in it, especially when it comes to items. Normally, there is no way to know if there is a mistake in the Players' Guide or not, but fortunately, I compiled a list containing all of the major mistakes I have noticed. To see it, just visit the EarthBound Players' Guide Corrections section.
Two Giygas tips...
- Don't use PSI Shield Omega (O looking character) - In the first stage of fighting cast PSI Shield Sigma (E). If you use it on the Omega level, Giygas's spells will deflect off his shield, off of him, and back at you! PSI Shield Sigma will just absorb all attack PSI directed at them. Paula should regenerate the Shield after every few turns.
- Use Brainshock - When Pokey turns off the Devil's Machine have Poo use Brainshock on him. Some of his attacks will hit himself! You will have to renew this after his defenses become unstable.
