League Rules/Policies

Since there have been so many questions on how exactly drafts work, what can/can’t you do, etc., we’ll post our guidelines here.

- THE DRAFT: We will conduct one draft consisting of three rounds each year, approximately in late February, when Yahoo sets up its fantasy baseball league pages. All players available in the Yahoo directory will be draftable. No player is available until you can physically add them until your team… we don’t keep minor league rosters. EXCEPTION- If you had previously drafted or had a player on your roster that for some reason is NOT listed on Yahoo any longer, you have the option of keeping that player on your roster. For simplicity sake, you still will be able to have a full allotment of 28 players on your league page, and the non-listed player will not count toward that total. However, you cannot keep more than two such players on your roster at any given time, and they’ll be listed on this web page for reference.

- Owners do not have to participate in the draft. If they like their team, they can keep up to 28 players from the previous years team. You will simply forfeit your draft picks. You can waive your third round pick and keep your first two, for example, if you want to keep 26 players. To receive your standard 3 picks, you have to cut down your roster to 25 players. Basically, you cannot go over 28 players on your roster during the off-season at any given time, except in the case noted above. A pick counts as a player. You can have as many draft picks as you want to trade for, keeping in mind that each one counts as a player and you have to be as far under the 28 limit as you have picks. You can trade picks to other teams at any time and for any year.

- Draft Order is simply the reverse of the previous years finish, with trades factored in.

- Once Yahoo goes up, the commish will input the rosters for all the teams, and lock adding and dropping. The way the actual draft will work is the commish will unlock whoever’s pick it is, that player has a few hours to make their selection (exact time not determined), then their team is locked and the next team has the same opportunity. It is fairly important to stay on top of this so the draft does not drag out into the start of the season.

- CUTS: Starting in 2004, cuts will be due February 1^st every year. You have until then to determine who, if anyone, you want to cut, how many picks you want to receive, etc. The reason for this date is that it is approximately 3-4 weeks before Yahoo goes up, and it gives plenty of time for everyone to plan their draft strategy without any last minute interruptions or changes. If you decide you want to cut someone in October, and decide that you instead want to keep them, February 1^st is the deadline for notifying the commish. At this point, rosters will be set until the draft.

- REPLACING DEAD TEAMS: We’d like to return all 20 teams every year, but the first two years we have not quite been able to do that. Owners need to make sure that they submit their correct email address so we can contact you during the off-season. Also, owners need to stay active during the season. Not every day or even every week, but if the league page shows managers have not been active for a span of a couple months, we may need to find replacements. The goal is to get 20 active managers that come back every year, which makes it more fun for everyone.

- WAIVER PRIORITIES: This will be set as the reverse order of finish, similar to the draft only unaffected by trades. You cannot trade waiver priorities.
