Strategies later in the game
These are the things I try to do in the end of the game. These things work reasonably well for me, so they aren't guarenteed to work for everyone, but you might want to try them out.
1. Attack whenever possible.
Even when the opponent outnumbers you, there are many ways you can hurt them. You can divide their colonies in 1/2, pillage their industry and farmland, andmany other things.
2. Constantly chug out weapons and troops.
This one is pretty obvious. Later in the game, you should have enough cash flow to support any army, so whenever your population in a county gets too high, build an army.
3. Specialize industry for each county.
Because all resources go into a central bank, you can have one county produce iron, another county producing stone, and another county producing wood. Towards the end of the game, you should have a large amount of wood, so try to concentrate more on stone and iron.
4. Conquer only those colonies that you can adqeuately defend.
THis one is pretty obvious. Also, don't conquer another county if it means you can't defend another county.
I'll come up with more when I can. . .
