Strategies for the middle of the game

1.

Build your army slowly, and take small chunks from all your colonies. This will keep your happiness more stable. Mercenaries are good, but attack with them immediately because they are expensive.

2.

Conquer nearby colonies as quickly as you can. They provide tax revenue, and resources. If you have a food problem, transfer around 50 cows from your home county to your new county.

3.

After you get two or three counties, concentrate on being able to defend those colonies before expanding. You should have the capability to produce all three types of industry, so how is the time to make improvements to these counties. Build castles and things like that to generate tax revenue and weapons for your army. After a while, continue expanding cautiously. Beware of other barons, however.
