When I rented Final Fantasy 6 I made a mistake. That I only rented it! (I eventually found the game, to any of you who may be new to this page.) In my opinion, it was one of the best games ever made!
The plot is great. There is the Empire and the Returners (the good guys). The Empire drains magical beings called "Espers" and mixes the powers with technology, so it's called MagiTech.
The main members of the Empire were Kefka (the cruel and greedy bad guy), Gestahl (leader), General Leo, and Professor Cid. General Leo was the only member of the Empire that wouldn't be infused with the magic.
They eventually find out how to turn Espers into Magicite so your can receive their powers in total. The Returners thought this was cruel. Eventually, Terra (half Esper, half human) tells the Espers to help them.
They go out of control and destroy many Empire villages. So, the Empire forms a peace meeting to end the war. But Kefka has other plans...Characters:
- Terra - At the beginning she is used by the Empire with a slave crown. After it is taken off of her she can't remember a thing. Eventually she remembers that she is half Esper, half human. She can use a morphing power after that.
- Locke - A thief who calls himself a treasure hunter. He helps Terra get through Narshe (the first village). He hopes to raise his girlfriend from the dead with Phoenix. His specials can be either Steal (steals an item from an enemy) or Capture (steal & hit an enemy).
- Edgar - A flirt whose success rate is 0%. He is an engineer and the king of Figaro Castle. His power is Tools. The tools you get can do certain things on enemies.
- Sabin - A pumped-up martial artist. He is the brother of Edgar, but he wanted to have his freedom instead of being king. He left the castle and started training with his master, Duncan. His power is Blitz. Enter a certain button sequence and he will attack or heal.
- Cyan - A swordsman that says "thou" a lot. Former king of Doma Castle, until Kefka poisioned everyone there. He mourns the death of his wife and his child. He can use SwordTechs. With those you wait to fill up a meter (like a time guage) somewhat and press "A" to activate a special attack.
- Shadow - A loner that travels with his dog Interceptor. It is said that he'd slit his mother's throat for a nickel. He helps Sabin at a point and he helps the party on the floating continent. He can throw weapons and shurikens at enemies to increase damage.
- Celes - A former general of the Empire. She left when she found out what they were doing. Locke helped rescue her. She can use the Runic power which absorbes magic when she activates it and is equiped with a sword.
- Gau - A "demon child" thrown out by his father. He has lived primativly in the Veldt region. He calls Sabin "Mr. Thou" (although it should be Cyan). When he's in the Veldt he can Leap to get enemy powers; then he can Rage anytime to become that enemy.
- Setzer - A gambler with an airship. He joins you because the double-headed coin landed on heads. He mourns over the death of a female companion on occasion. He has the powers of Slot, where depending on what shows up on it. He can also use another move called GP Rain if you have a certain Relic equipped, which attacks all enemies at the cost of GP.
- Strago - A desendent of people who learned powers from the Espers. He and his village keep their secret of magic for years. He can use Lores, which are acquired when enemies use certain abilities on him. He then learns the ability.
- Relm - The granddaughter of Strago and one of the best artists. Stragos often keeps her from helping in adventures, so she calls him a "fuddy duddy". She can use Sketch, she draws the enemy and sics the drawing on the enemy, or Control, where she can control the enemy for awhile.
- Mog - A fun loving moogle (see picture) who says "Kupo!" often. He eventually becomes a hostage for a pickpocket. You have the choice of saving him, or getting a Gold Hairpin. He can use dances to use special powers on the enemy/party. Kupo!
Hidden characters:
- Umaro - A very powerful beast immune to ice attacks. After you fight him in the caves of Narshe, Mog (Kupo!) makes him join. He cannot equip Espers, armor, or weapons. You cannot control him, he attacks on his own.
- Gogo - A mimicer found on Triangle Island. To find him you have to get sucked in a Zone Eater. His special power is Mimic. He cannot equip Espers. Whatever the last attack by a party member was, he'll do without using any MP or items.
+ Wonderful plot. Games can vary greatly. A wide variety of characters. This game has the best music. There can be 4 instead of only 3 characters in a party. A wide variety of weapons, armors, spells, items, etc. Interesting locations (ex. the Colosseum).
- It is difficult to find the game to buy now. Characters can easily become TOO powerful. Without Sprint Shoes on, characters walk slow. Some people may consider the graphics to be too poor. Random enemy encounters can get annoying.
