Appearance: Shrieking Eels get their name from the loud piercing noise they make when approaching prey. Shrieking Eels are a long, snake like fish, which are highly aggressive. They are usually a deep grey or dark blue color, with eyes that are slightly lighter in shade. Their scaleless bodies reach lengths of five to nine feet, and their thin heads are nearly a foot long. These heads contain a powerful set of jaws, which contain rows of sharp teeth.
Combat: Shrieking Eels attack in swarms. They are able to smell the scent of blood in the water, and can sense thrashing movements in the water, much like a shark. When prey is detected, by either smelling the blood or the convulsing of a potential victim's body, they let out a low shrieking wail, which is done for two reasons. The first of which is when the prey is first detected, the lower shriek is let out to communicate with other shrieking Eels in the immediate vicinity. This is to let them know that prey has been detected. The closer an Eel gets to the intended prey, the louder it's shriek becomes. The second reason, is that the louder volume shriek can immobilize an opponent with fear, as well as causing a tremendous pain to the victim's ears. This shrieking is exceptionally painful, causing 1 point of damage per round. The victim can avoid the effects of immobilization by passing a saving throw versus paralyzation. When feeding, these creatures use wolf pack tactics to feed, allowing ten of them to feed at any given time. Their powerful jaws cause 1d6 points of damage per round.
Habitat / Society: These creatures prefer to remain in the relatively shallow waters of the seas. They usually dwell within the ranges of ten to fifty miles from the shore, and usually frequent regularly traveled waters. These Eels usually travel in loosely bound packs, believing safety in numbers. They are usually all within a mile of each other, as that is the range of the shriek that emanates from their mouths. This shriek will bring 25% of the Shrieking Eels in the first round, and 25% each additional round, until the full allotment of the pack has arrived in the fourth round.
Ecology: These Eels, like many other types of eel, are primarily carnivorous. There are no creatures of the sea that hunt them directly, but many have been known to eat the Shrieking Eel when food is scarce. These creatures live in relative harmony with most other creatures of the sea, except most sharks seem to despise their presence, because they have been known to be attracted to the same types of prey. The sharks are 80% resistant to their shrieking.
