Appearance: Ouphe Gnomes are either the crossbreed of a Kobold or a Goblin, and a Gnome. This is indeed a strange mixture, considering that they are mortal enemies of each other. They are a corrupted and vile Gnome, living deep beneath the lands of the suns. Ouphe Gnomes stand about three feet in height in their slightly hunched postures. Ouphe Gnomes have a wide, broad face with deeply etched features and very large, slightly pointed ears. Their wide mouths consist of many small sharp fangs. Ouphe Gnomes are usually completely bald, although some have patches of hair here and there, along with facial hair. They have a small spinal ridge which travels all the way up their heads, which splits into two ridges just above the neck, and stops about two inches above their eyeballs. These ridges at first glance appear to be small horns, and in fact are slightly serrated. These spinal ridges end in a small stumpy tail about three inches long. An Ouphes eyes are usually a dull, glazed over grey color, but becomes bright red or yellow when they get excited. Their skins are a mottled combination of browns, greys, and blacks, and their long gnarled arms reach nearly to their knees.
Combat: When forced into combat, Ouphe Gnomes are relatively ineffective, usually relying on small piercing weapons. Ouphe prefer to fight from a distance, using all kinds of bows and relying heavily on traps and pitfalls set with rows of spikes at the bottom, to capture victims. They also set up mechanical crossbows and staged cave-ins. Ouphe have also learned a trick or two from their dwarven neighbors, having learned the art of their deadly traps as well. These gnomes have a natural magic resistance of 20%, which never increases, as well as having an innate ability to become invisible twice per day. Ouphe have the common Svirfneblin abilities of underground detection.
Habitat / Society: Ouphe gnomes usually travel in small packs, as they tend to bond with each other upon meeting them. Ouphe gnomes live in small structures in the deepest parts of the Underdark, either carving out large stalagmites or building small buildings of clay or other soft materials. As Ouphe do not set out to attack anything directly, they have no natural enemies, although they hold a natural hatred for all other races.
Ecology: Ouphe set up their traps as not only a means of defense, but as a source of food gathering as well. They will eat anything that is captured in such traps, seeming to enjoy the taste of everything equally well, despite every other creatures aversion to such foods. These gnomes typically live for about 250 years.
