Author's note:

Okay, let's see if I can do this as well as Robert Brown & Francis
Tolbert... special thanks go to Atalece Claussen, a friend of mine from
school, who inspired the character that debuts in this story. Thanks, Ata. :)

A LED on the control panel began to blink incessantly, accompanied
by the separated tones of an alarm. Snively looked up, and pressed a button.
"Sector 12, report; what's going on down there?"
"PRISONER, SIR," was the SWATbot's reply.
Snively smiled. "Good, good. Bring them in at once."
There came no more commentary on the opposite end, so Snively
deactivated the com-link and relaxed in his chair, waiting. Ah, did it feel
good to be able to do his job without his uncle Julian breathing down the
back of his neck every step. It was just him, the SWATbots, and-
	"Hello, Rhino Nose."
And his sister? Snively whirled his chair around and got a glimpse of
his prisoner. A snow-white shorthair cat, with a mane of straight black hair
that hung down to her lower back, her face looking pale against her loose
black robes. "Lilith?" he said, not quite believing it was her.
"Cut the reunion crap, Rhino," she said, pulling free of the SWATbots
and reaching him in four strides. "It's not like you're actually glad to see
me."
"On the contrary, I am." As her attention was averted to the main
screen, he added, "For now, anyway."
She didn't hear him. "So this is where you've been hiding all these
years," Lilith remarked, casting a skeptical eye around the room. Snively
was afraid she'd say it needed a 'woman's touch', but to his surprise she
seemed pleased. "Cowering under the wrath of ol' Uncle Julie, am I right?"
"Julian is dead, Lilith. Even you aren't secluded enough to miss
that."
"I seem to remember hearing the explosion," she said with some
disapproval. But it was directed to their uncle, not him. "Mangy FFs got to
him at last." She smiled and surveyed the territory again. "Yes, I think I'm
going to like it here."
"And just what do you mean by that?!" Snively asked in alarm.
"Why, you mean you WEREN'T going to ask me to stay?" she exclaimed in
feigned surprise. "Tsk tsk, Rhino; mother would have been so disappointed."
	"Mother was a twit."
"So she was," Lilith agreed. "That still doesn't account for your
rudeness. I guess I'll just have to stay on my own accord. I know you won't
mind."
	"Now wait just a second-"
"Hold your tongue or I'll hold it for you," she snapped. "I will be
settling into my room if I am needed. Though I hope... for your sake... that
I'm not."
With that, she prowled out of the room, disappearing around a corner.
Snively frowned. In a period of approximately five minutes he'd
managed to reunite with his sister AND gain a partner he didn't want. He just
hoped she didn't wear out her welcome... though he had a hunch she wouldn't
care if her welcome was shot full of holes.

The sounds of swirling feet and swishing tails echoed through the
valley, indicating the arrival of four specific Freedom Fighters. "Where
we goin', Sonic?" Tails asked excitedly.
"Snervley's Headquarters," the hedgehog answered through his teeth,
which were at the moment trying to turn a dial on his watch while his hands
were busy. "Rote?" he said into the com-link. "Hear me?"
"Loud and clear, Sonic," said Rotor's voice. "Sal, is Nicole about
ready?"
"Almost, Rotor," Sally replied. At the moment, she was resting in
Sonic's arms, fiddling with Nicole while at the same time trying to get out
of the way of Sonic's com-adjusting mouth.
"How 'bout you, Jaye?" Rotor said again. "You and Tails ready?"
"You got it, Rotor," she answered, giving Tails a wink. "In fact,
it looks like Sonic's a little mad at us for taking his decoy job."
Sonic tried a retort, but all he managed to produce was something
short of a mumble. The rest smiled, and were silent as they made their way
toward Robotropolis.

Lilith calmly sat on the foot of her bed, smiling contentedly at the
appearance of her new room. It was done all in chrome, with seamless floors,
walls, and ceiling, and sported a hard bed with a black comforter. There
was also a large window opening out onto a balcony of the headquarters, with
a spectacular view of the smog-choked city and all its beauty. It suited her.
Suddenly a red light, the only thing in the room that had any color
to it, burst into a tizzy of flashing light. "Oh, goodie," she remarked,
straightening up and dashing down the hallway towards the control room, "I
finally get to meet those idiotic FFs. Should prove to be entertaining,
watching Rhino keep them off his back."
She found him pounding his fist on the console. "Get them you fools,
GET THEM!" he squealed at the monitors.
	"Having trouble?"
Snively glared. "All right, then, let's see you try catching them,"
he said, stepping away from the controls and making a flourishing gesture at
them with one hand.
Lilith smiled and accepted his offer, keying some things into the
computer Snively didn't catch. A moment later, the SWATbots had chased
whatever it was they were chasing back toward the cameras. She wanted a
better view of her enemies.
As she watched, her eyes started getting wider and wider, her jaw
dropping slightly in awe. Walking across the screen was a tall and extremely
handsome male hedgehog, his fur of a deep blue. She could barely believe her
eyes as his figure moved across the screen. He stopped, and blew a raspberry
at his pursuers, momentarily distorting his face before he disappeared from
view again, the SWATbots hot on his heels.
	"Lilith?"
She quickly snapped her jaw shut and glared at her brother. "WHAT?!"
"N-nothing. You seemed a bit put out-"
"Shut up and catch those idiot FFs before I shut you up!" she
hissed, turning her back abruptly and stalking out of the room and leaving
him to stare after her and wonder what he'd done.

Sonic looked behind him and watched the SWATbots take a few more
steps his way. This was crazy: here was a band of robots approaching him
with a vengence, and he was jogging at a measly 20 kph! He jumped, revved his
feet, and streaked away upon touchdown, leaving the 'bots behind in such a
rush that they would be cleaning the dust out of their joints for weeks.
"SAL!" he called, looking around as he neared the rendezvouz point,
and he soon spotted her trashing a stealthbot. No sooner had it been
dispatched, she was in his arms. "Hey, Sal!" he greeted pleasurably. "Did ya
get the plans?"
"Yeah," she answered, not sharing his cheerful attitude.
He frowned. Apparently, something in those plans she'd picked up had
silenced her but good. Veering into an alleyway, Sonic set her gently on her
feet. "Sal? Anything wrong?"
She nodded, her head making jerky motions as she held back tears. "I
intercepted a transmission from Snively... Sonic, he thinks he's found a way
to destroy the Void..."
"Oh, man... taking your father with it," finished Sonic, suddenly
losing his spirits.
Nodding again, she turned away, leaning against a brick wall and
softly crying. Sonic followed, laying a hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry,
Sal; we can destroy anything Snervely makes just as fast as he can dish 'em
out. If he ever finds something that will destroy the Void, he won't even
get a CHANCE to use it. Okay?"
She nodded again, wrapped her arms about his neck when he picked her
up, and thought about her father for the rest of the trip.

Lilith lay sprawled on her bed, staring up at the ceiling in a daze.
No more than a few moments ago, she'd just found the man of her dreams.
Problem was, he was on the wrong side. No matter. She'd find a way to get
him for her own.
She smiled deviously. And she knew just how to do it.
