Summary of Tastes
Musically, I am one of the most eclectic people I know. Among my true loves in music, you might find David Bowie, Roger Waters, Janis Ian, Chopin, Bob Dylan, Everclear, Mozart, and The Wallflowers. Of course, I loved the Wallflowers before I found out their main was Jakob Dylan. It made the tears well up in my eyes with a mixture of relief and pride when I found this out, and I wouldn't stop talking about it for 2 days.
As far as reading goes, I am not so broadly based. I read science fiction as if it were some form of rare treat. My only heroes are science fiction authors, chiefly Ray Bradbury. I was stunned to note his name on the Advisory Board of a group I happen to be a part of, The Planetary Society.
On that subject... The Planetary Society is a group dedicated to the colonization of other planets, and consists largely of members of NASA, JPL, and space programs outside the U.S. Partially founded by Carl Sagan, it has made notable contributions to many NASA projects, and continues to do so today. This organization has created three optical SETI searches, as well as helped in the creation of SETI@Home, wherein you can actively contribute to the work of the scientists in Arecibo. The Planetary Society was one of the first organizations to recognize the importance of tracking NEO's, or Near Earth Objects. You may wish to read about that, as our future as a race may someday depend on it.
From a medical perspective, I'm a series of incurable but survivable mental and physical conditions. I don't stress it, I've just never been any other way. Food/perfume/pollen/detergent/soap allergies, chronic sinus ailments, autism, possible hyperactivity, asthma, lack of coordination between my left and right eyes. You're beginning to see why I don't bother to dwell on this subject, as the conversations could go on forever.
The one point which continues to bother me is an inherently fragile nature, possibly stemming from a rather strong need to please other people. I just have a single bubble of happiness, and thousands of bricks with which to build it. I am beginning to think that other people have much less fragile bubbles, or at least their sorrows are more like rocks than wrecking balls. If I didn't build part of my happiness on what others think of me, I suppose I'd be much happier. What good is opening up if you're not bulletproof?
I'm also, as you may have noticed, an anime fanatic. My two favorite series are Maison Ikkoku and Bubblegum Crisis, respectively. I love Maison Ikkoku because of the personal drama involved, the wonderful plots, and the fact that problems aren't solved in a half-hour, per se. Really, one day's works breed long-term problems all their own!
As for Bubblegum Crisis, I love this show because it violates many rules of the Anime Laws of Physics, including those involving death and "constant velocity." However, it does seem to adhere to the rules of "designated good-guy areas" to some degree or another.
By the sons of Warvan, I shall avenge you. Peace out.
