ENGLISH
GCSE English - SEG
In line with policy in the past, ALL candidates will be entered for both Language and Literature. The course covers two years and develops from the work of Years 7, 8 and 9.
The work is assessed as follows:-
Language - 20% oral work and 20% written work both based on work covered in term time as 'coursework' and assessed by the English Staff. 60% written exam.
Literature - Coursework here will make up 30% of the total - the remaining 70% of the assessment will be by final exam. Some of the coursework may include assessment of oral work.
The course will include Shakespeare, other pre Twentieth Century literature and a selection of more modern works.
In putting together the coursework and in delivery of the subject there will be considerable overlap (for example, a written piece may be submitted for both Language and Literature folders), and, in practice the course will be delivered as a single course, not as two separate subjects.
The course leads to the award of two separate GCSEs.
