GERMAN - NEAB + SEG
With the growing emphasis on the European dimension and with future career prospects in mind, all pupils will continue studying at least one foreign language in Years 10 and 11. A motivated pupil will find the skills learnt to be of great value.
The courses in German aim to develop the ability to use a foreign language for the purposes of practical communication. Using the language takes firm precedence over merely studying it. There is also a purposeful approach to language awareness and the formation of a solid linguistic base.
The German GCSE places equal emphasis on Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. It offers exam papers at Higher or Foundation level in each of these skills. Some pupils will study a modular course, with regular assessments as well as a terminal examination. Others will be better suited to a course with longer-term objectives and a terminal examination. This course is likely to have a coursework component.
