RELIGIOUS STUDIES MEG
The subject enjoys a unique position in the curriculum and is taught to all pupils throughout the school. As a subject it has equal standing in relation to the core and other foundation subjects and as such is equally acceptable as a qualification for higher education and employment.
The Education Reform Act requires that all schools must teach religious studies in accordance with the locally agreed syllabus.
At GCSE, students study two units -
(1) Christian perspective of social and moral issues relating to family and community life; birth and death; marriage and relationships; the relief of poverty and suffering; war and peace; the environment and global issues.
Judaism as a world religion.
The subject is examined by two pieces of course work covering the syllabus, and by two written examinations.
An A Level course is available and students are therefore able to continue the subject at higher levels.
For those looking for a career in any of the caring professions, law, civil service, armed services, police, personnel, management, or overseas work, this subject is particularly useful.
