What the Jaguar is.

The Atari Jaguar is/was the first 64-bit video game system to hit the market. It had many interesting and new ideas, like the controlpad overlay, which was a piece of flexible plastic that went over the Numeric Keypad . Now, that idea was not entirely original, but it had not been used on any other video game system for many years. And the control pad is very large looking, but in reality, it was very comfortable to use, and made for many game features to be easy to access.

Its graphics ability was very good considering when it came out. It was released when the Sega Genesis and the Super Nintendo were at the high point of their 16-Bit battle. Just compare any Sega or SNES titles of that time to Alien vs Predator! Yes, some games were pretty lame in the way of graphics, but many were better than their counterparts in the 16-Bit market at the time. The games that lacked good graphics usually were very fun to play.

Then there is the hardware. The Jaguar saves TO ITS OWN CARTRIDGE! That means no buying $20 "Memory Cards" or "Memory Packs" to be able to save. And the Jaguar still has the edge on speed. The Jaguar is about 66 Mhz (megahertz- the way computer speeds are gauged. The higher, the better), while the Sony Playstation is only 33 Mhz and the Sega Saturn is only 28 Mhz!

Exactly how many games does the Jaguar have anyway???

The Atari Jaguar has about 61 games total. 49 of them were Cartridges, and the other 12 were CD's. Some BIG names made games for the Jag also, like Activision (who is now buying Atari!), Time Warner Interactive, and Williams!
And believe it or not, there or more games soon to be released, even without Atari's support. Battlesphere (REAL cool) will be out soon, along with others from a number of developers! The Jag lives on!
