Thursday the 12th of November
When I was thinking about what to do with this weeks event, I was bored outta my mind, and paging through the Elanthian Times, and it suddenly came to me! I brought up my idea of the riddles to the rest of those who help me religiously each week, and it turned out excellent! Of course, I logged it, enjoy!
IMPORTANT NOTE, All information on the Dhe'nar, and Highlord Starsnuffer's story are property of M'lady Gryphon and the exerpts were taken from there, please see The Far Side of the Blackmoone for more information on the Dhe'nar, and be sure to visit her other site, Gryphon's Lair.
The riddles were taken from information provided in the Elanthian Times all three editions. I do not want anyone thinking I thought of this on my own!!! ;\

You recite:
"Number 6
I am from Breganda.
Devestior taught me all I know.
None like myself have ever travelled to these lands.
To my knowledge there are no others like me left
It is my nature to fight, and I fight for one thing, Survival
They call me "the war rat"
Who am I?"
You recite:
"Answer is, Spike the war rat."
(Rastavan rises up, his back straight, but with a twinkle in his eye, promptly leans forward, his gaze shifting intently across the room.)
Rastavan says, "There are those who have, and those who will fight giant rats in the catacombs beneath the city."
Rastavan asks, "Now, what if one day, while simply walking the streets, you ran into the largest rat ye've ever seen?"
Rastavan asks, "Ten feet of giant war rat, staring straight at ye, and on top of that he spoke, what would ye do?"
Rastavan raises an eyebrow.
Rastavan surveys the area.
Rastavan grins.
Rastavan says, "I'd say. . ."
Rastavan tilts his fine old brandy side to side, making the light play off it.
Rastavan says, "Better offer him some rum"
Rastavan grins.
Rastavan says, "Ye've run across no other than Spike, the war rat. . ."
Rastavan says, "And if ye'd looked closer, his collar would have told ye so"
Rastavan grins.
Rastavan says, "Aye, and he'd probably give ye a big hug. . ."
Rastavan says, "All the while giggling madly"
Rastavan grins.
Rastavan says, "Spike is originally from the land of Breganda"
Rastavan says, "It was there he was transformed by strange magics into what he is today byt the wizard, Devestior."
Rastavan says, "And it was with Devestior that Spike first came to this city back during its founding days."
Rastavan says, "He was later to return, after sneaking off a ship, passing first through Icemule, which he promptly left. . .no doubt because of the cold"
Rastavan shivers.
Rastavan grins.
Rastavan says, "Now, Spike says he fought in those days because of instinct and for survival. . ."
Rastavan says, "But regardless of why, many owed a great deal to him during those times when lords were few, legends nearly non-existant, and the Griffin sword lay in fragments, scattered across the lands."
Rastavan says, "It must have been quite a sight to see this war rat fighting in defense of our town. . ."
Rastavan says, "He even died at one point in one such battle."
Rastavan says, "His body was taken back to Voln, but his spirit did not have a chance to follow."
Rastavan says, "And his ghost stayed. . ."
Rastavan says, "It was Thalior who did something that had nae been done before."
Rastavan says, "Calling upon Lorminstra's favor, Spikes spirit was restored to his body. . ."
Rastavan says, "But in all of this, he had lost his collar, which is the source of his special abilities. . ."
Rastavan says, "His enemies, and the enemies of Devestior erected a grave for him, trying to lure Devestior by rumors of Spike's death"
Rastavan says, "But when Devestior did return, it was in triumph"
Rastavan says, "He tore down the mock tomb and returned Spike's collar."
Rastavan says, "As a matter of fact. . ."
Rastavan says, "Just about a month ago, Spike paid a visit to this town. . ."
Rastavan says, "Something he has not done in some time, very certainly putting to rest rumors of his death."
Rastavan says, "So, if ye do see this rat wandering the streets. . ."
Rastavan says, "D'nae run"
Rastavan says, "D'nae faint"
Redduon exclaims, "and d'nea kill it!"
Rastavan says, "And I'm sure he'll accept ale"
Rastavan says, "D'nae TRY to kill him"
Rastavan grins.
Rastavan says, "But have a chat with him. . .there are none other like them, and probably never will"
Rastavan smiles.
You recite:
"Number 7
I am the leader and spokesperson for the Dhe'nar
I came from a small village near the base of the Great Mountain in Sharath.
I am Highlord of the Obsidian council
I earned the title of "Emperor of Teras Island"
Who am I?"
You recite:
"Answer is Highlord Starnuffer Sunslayer"
"While researching subjects for this eve's events, I ran across some information on the Dhe'nar, and most graciously took on the task of further researching them, and bringin' some information to all present tanite. "
You recite:
"I cannae take credit for this research, as I just took parts of a spiderwebsite and sifted through the more easily understood parts, in hopes to further educate all in such a 'groups' beliefs."
You recite:
"I found while learning about these folks, that they are a one of a kind, either completely disliked or absolutely loved, they strive for themselves and their families."
You recite:
"While a contraversial group some may call them, I firmly believe that the teachings of their history can be of benefit to all. They possess a different overveiw of what most of us wander the lands for, and they practice their values and reason for living in the utmost way."
You recite:
"Here is some excerpts of M'Lady Gryphon's Lair, a very informational place to go in search of the history of the Dhe'nar people, it is a breif overview of who they are, what they are, and the more important pieces of history in their culture."
You recite:
"The Dhe'nar view the split of the elves into its 7 separate houses to be the downfall of the elves from the very beginning. To them, unity and the practice of Arkati self-enlightenment are the goals to which everyone must stride to achieve. "
You recite:
"They believe the bickering and quarreling among the elven houses as petty, and refuse to take any part in it or the political games it created. "
You recite:
"When the Dhe'nar left the elven nation, they left forever, believing the others to have betrayed the Arkati teachings. The Dhe'nar have no emotion or pity for the other elves, nor do they admit they have anything to do with the elven nation."
You recite:
"The legendary Arkati philosopher Noi'sho'rah taught them that the elves are the children of the Arkati, and as a child strives to become as its parents, the Dhe'nar strive to become as the Arkati. "
You recite:
"They do not view the Arkati so much as "gods" or "celestial beings" but more as role models for what they themselves can achieve. "
You recite:
"Being that the Dhe'nar believe they can become as powerful as the Arkati, they do not see them as different or better, only more powerful, thus Dhe'nar bow to no "god". "
You recite:
"Their religion is not one of worship
instead it is one of self-perfection, not so much as an individual, but as a race in whole
the ultimate goal being to achieve power over all things."
You recite:
"Over 50,000 years of hardship have scarred the Dhe'nar, forging and twisting their ancient beliefs into what they are now. They are an elitist race. "
You recite:
"Time has taught them that the other races are inferior, nothing more than pawns to be used to their own ends. The Dhe'nar have long been hunters, survivalists, and warriors. "
You recite:
"50,000 years of fighting for survival has taken its toll on the Dhe'nar psyche, however. The Dhe'nar at battle are a gruesome sight. They seem to want to torture and punish their prey, savoring the pain they inflict which each kill."
You recite:
"The Dhe'nar do not believe in the concept of "good" and "evil". They believe in survival, they believe in power. "
You recite:
"They hold true to the philosophy, "to be strong is to survive, to be weak is to perish", however simple survival is not enough for the Dhe'nar, thus they constantly strive to better themselves in their quest for power. "
You recite:
"This belief is shared with the great Drakes of ancient times, and has long endured the tests of time. While history is very important, a Dhe'nar scholar does not waste time brooding over such concepts like good and evil or spend their days asking "why", but rather they ask "how"."
You recite:
"I hope that this information has helped some of you in knowing who the Dhe'nar are, as it did myself, and it should help in making more sense of the story I'm going to tell that was written by Highlord Starsnuffer Sunslayer."
You recite:
"The Duk'sa
By Highlord Starsnuffer Sunslayer"
You recite:
"The Duk'sa are a mysterious, and mostly unknown sect of the Dhe'nar. Originally, the Duk'sa were a part of the greater elven people, as were the Dhe'nar before the elves split into separate houses."
You recite:
"When the Dhe'nar followed Tahlad to Rhoska-Tor, it was the Duk'sa, which means Shadow Hunters, that led the way to that barren land."
You recite:
"The life of the Duk'sa was hard in Rhoska-Tor. Life in the caverns dampened their natural magicks, and the dark essence that flowed through the hallowed plains created a void of life. While the Magi and the Priests strengthened their power, the Duk'sa were hurt severely."
You recite:
"Slowly, the powers of the Duk'sa were lost. After a time, they were no better then the common footsoldiers. As life at Rhoska-Tor began to settle down, the innate connection to the land and its creatures that the Duk'sa possessed began to reemerge. As the Dhe'nar began to adjust to life in the barren plains, new problems began to show themselves. Ailments of unknown origin and body wracking sicknesses began to take their hold."
You recite:
"Though the outbreaks of these problems were very minor, the sicknesses were a nuisance. It was the Duk'sa that searched the barren plans for what little herbs they could find to assist the Dhe'nar empaths into healing the sick. It was the Duk'sa that laid the trail for the Dhe'nar to follow to the promised land of Sharath."
You recite:
"Sharath proved renewing to the Duk'sa. With the lush jungle and abundant life, the Duk'sa found their natural powers returning. With the return of their magicks, they began to once again fill their place in society."
You recite:
"The Duk'sa led raiding parties into the jungles around Sharath, returning with much needed food and supplies. As the Dhe'nar began to fall from the teachings of Noi'sho'rah during the Dark Time, the Duk'sa grew more distant from the society."
You recite:
"As the various castes vied for political power, the Duk'sa retreated into the jungle and isolated themselves. When the Temple Caste began slaughtering anyone who disagreed with their self-proclaimed "godhood" the Duk'sa left Sharath alone completely. They followed the old ways, hunting for their food, respecting and worshipping nature and striving for an inner peace. Then came the cataclysm that destroyed almost all the Dhe'nar.... Luckily, most the Duk'sa survived."
You recite:
"The Great Fire changed the jungle around Sharath, changing everything into a grey-black ash. With the change in the forest, the forest dwellers began to change themselves. While the Duk'sa still strove for inner peace, their ways became darker. Their ability to hide in the dense foliage shifted to hiding in the shadows of the great ashen trees. The magicks of the Duk'sa themselves became darker, which helped them in dealing with the twisted creatures that began pouring from the jungle."
You recite:
"Presently, the Duk'sa inhabit the jungles around Sharath, providing information of the surrounding lands, and acting as a first line of defense against any attackers. Although the other Castes disagree, the Duk'sa claim that if an attacker should get past these Dhe'nar rangers, Sharath itself would be lost. The Duk'sa are masters of ambush and shadow tactics, second only to the true Dhe'nar assassins."
You recite:
"Though not quite as skilled in the art of melee as Dhe'nar warriors, these Dhe'nar rangers are backed by potent spiritual and natural magicks. They remain a small, but elite force among the Dhe'nar, and guard their secrets closely. They are masters of gathering information...watch your back, there may be one behind you."
You recite:
"Number 8
I carry my work with me where I go.
I was married to Miri
I used to travel with my nephew Mouse
I enjoy doing work for younger folks
I offered my services as a prize for the bardfest
I am one of the oldest in my trade
Who am I?"
You recite:
"Answer is, Filifor, the merchant."
Juspera says, "I won't bore you with details."
Juspera says, "I can't say I've met Filifor--as I have met Spike--"
Juspera says, "And there is little information to be had on him."
Juspera says, "Filifor Aelisor was born in a small hobbit shire."
Juspera says, "He trained in the trade of merchanting and married young, and he and lovely Miri soon found themselves with a dozen children."
Juspera says, "Children are what you get when you marry people."
Juspera nods.
Juspera says, "Most of his affection, however, fell upon his young nephew and apprentice Mouse."
Juspera says, "Miri and Filifor were not together forever, and even Mouse departed, but Filifor continues to do alterations for young folk and as support for the arts."
Juspera says, "You get fleas."
Juspera says, "Gowain also wanted me to throw in that "Filifor is short.""
You recite:
"Number 9
I am a dark elf, born and raised outside of Ta'Faendryl
I wear a blue dragon tattoo, 'the key to my soul'
I was trained in part by Druggath Inkslinger
When waiting for my services, I want you to know I am a person to.
Who am I?"
Howlinbear stands up.
You recite:
"Answer is Ink, tha tattoo artist."
Howlinbear recites:
"I bets ya all have seen many folks about his town who has a pretty picture painted apon demselves at one time er annuder. Some has pictures of dey favorite food er drink. Some has special symbols of dey proffession on der arms an legs. Some even have pictures of dey mums"
Howlinbear scratches at a snarling bear tattoo.
Howlinbear recites:
"But how many of ya eva thought about how dey got der? An what does dey really mean? Well da bear intends ta tell ya a little about one of da folks skilled nuff ta put em der, an her name is Ink D'witch"
Howlinbear recites:
"Now Ink it is said hails from a small tribal village near Rhoska-tor, an was raised by a family of artists. Her own father taught her the trade of the needle an ink. An I'm sure she plans ta pass da lore on ta her own when da time comes."
Howlinbear recites:
"Now dis tribe of hers has der own beliefs abou tattoos, aye dey does. Dey say dat A tattoo is da "key ta a soul" an when one bears these designs apon demselves dey can be verra powerful. Ink herself has a full body dragon tattoo dat she feels may one day spread it's wings to protect her from harm. Now dis idea if powerful nuff fer the bear ta think it almos a religion. Ink I would think, worships Tattoos an all dat goes wid em"
Howlinbear recites:
"Now as all young ones does Ink ventured away from home ta learn more about her love of tattoos an putten em on folks. An as all proffessionals knows yer bound ta meet someone of yer skill while roamin da lands. Well Ink she met up with one of her own named Druggath Inkslinger. "
Howlinbear recites:
"Druggath was more of a salesman den an artist. He knew how ta make tattoos fast, an how ta get people ta pay fer em. Something dat was a bit new ta Ink. She sometimes took days jest apon one person's tattoo an her dis guy was crankin em out in seconds. Druggath was kind nuff ta tutor the fledglin arts an teach her jest how ta make a silver er two paintin tattoos of simple things."
Howlinbear recites:
"As she grew in fame as a artist more an more powerful folk came ta her door. One such was a Ta'faendryl Sorcerer. Apon him she put a tattoo of his own design said to protect him should a demon slip from his control."
Howlinbear recites:
"Das the mos bear knows about her. But as ya already seen..Her hands have touched the bear's once already. Perhaps he bound ta see her again"
Howlinbear smiles.
Howlinbear says, "bear a fast talka"
Howlinbear winks.
