Well J.D. Drew wins yet another meaningless award, first person mentioned by name as a topic in more than one Tater Sports Rant.   Means his asking price just went up.  Actually the little brat has been signed by the Cardinals.  He got $8.5 million guaranteed.   He says that the atmosphere in St. Louis (Translation: the fans) was better for him.  He only wanted $11 million so the Phillies would either pass or not sign him because he did not like Philadelphia's atmosphere.   Well, we shall now wait for Drew to show up in St. Louis gear, then boo him so much he will wish he never played the game of baseball.  He will be booed for his entire career, whenever he enters Philadelphia.  No matter what he tries, Philadelphia will boo him.   I hope he hears every insult, because they ALL will be about him.  Of course the current Cardinals have a few problems with Drew's money.   Namely quite a few soon to be free agent veterans, who have produced at the Major League Level, and want the Cards to spread their new found wealth.   Look for St. Louis to be in the hunt for number one overall pick in a few years, because Drew is all that they have in their minor league system, except for a few pitchers, and their current veterans want some of the same money as Drew or they will hit the road.  McGwire may start regretting staying in St. Louis.

The "atmosphere" difference between Philadelphia and St. Louis.   Or for the lay man, The difference between Philadelphia and St. Louis fans.  St. Louis fans will go to the ball yard no matter what.  The team sucks, they come.  The team is great, they come.  Yes, a few more come when they are good, but a gate attraction like McGwire can also account for only a few extra fans.  Philadelphia fans will come if you field a winner.   If you don't field a team that wins,  then we don't show, but your TV and radio ratings will be through the roof.  St. Louis fans are impassive.  They cheer at the right, and boo, half-heartedly, at the right times, but only at the right time.   Philly fans will cheer anything that pleases them, a catch, a strikeout, a hit, a catch by a fan, etc....   Philly fans will boo at anything they dislike, giving less than 100%, striking out with the bases loaded, walking in a run, any player they dislike (home or away).   St. Louis does not boo a player because they dislike their politics.  Philly will boo or attack a player for their hair style (Mr. Jagr).   Those are the major differences between St. Louis's "atmosphere" and Philadelphia's "atmosphere".

Football training camp is starting.   Meaning baseball will now have another sport competing with them again.  With Selig being elected Commissioner by that narrow 30-0 margin, could baseball be in any worse spot????  Selig the man who announced that the World Series would be canceled and is one of the two people that American baseball lovers grew to hate during the Strike.  Well at least the Minor leagues aren't  completely screwed up.

I missed on my Hockey predictions.  Somehow Washington got into the finals.   The only bigger surprise than the Red Wings return, was Washington's appearance.   Who ever picked a Caps, Wings Stanley Cup Final is probably dead with shock that they got it right.

Does anyone care that the NBA has a lockout going on??????
