J.D. Drew what will you ever do?  The number 2 pick of 1997 might become the number 2 pick of 1998.  Why number 2 twice?  Because the Phillies will not pick him with the number 1 pick and the Athletics of Oakland have expressed interest in drafting the money grubbing s.o.b.  Twice, because Drew thinks he is owed 11 million dollars because of how good he is.  I am writing this column I think I am worth 11 million for writing it.  Pay me or I won't write.   Oops, didn't work.  To J.D. hope he enjoys all the boos that he earned with that money, and that he never makes a trip to Philly, we tend to be a little hostile.   To the Athletics good luck signing the prick, you're going to need it, 11 million dollars worth of it.  Of course it is not all J.D. Drew's fault.  Which brings up topic two: Scott Boras.
Scott Boras.  The two most evil words uttered in negotiations, EVER.  The man tries every tactic in the book to get what he wants.  If the book does not cover a particular tactic, he uses it.  Every tactic used against Boras is, "negotiating in bad faith."  Scott Boras by definition means bad faith negotiations.  And ussually it is him who is negotiating in "bad faith."  The guy has been honest once in his life.  He said his name is Scott Boras.  The guy uses every trick legal and illegal to gain whatever minute edge it will gain him.  Yes I understand that he is trying to get the best deal for his client.  But does he really get his client the best deal.  Drew missed a year of baseball.  Okay, he did play in the North league, which is comparable to AA baseball, barely.  Some teams in the North League are decent, but none are great, and none of the pitchers in the North League are of talent equal to what is found in AAA baseball or the Majors.  If Drew is so good, then he should have set every North League offensive record.  All he did was prove that he has some potential to be good.  I mean Rafael Palmeiro good, he did not prove that he could be Ken Griffey Jr. good.  There is a major difference.  Palmeiro is a excellent defensive first baseman who hits for a good average, some power, and drives in runs.  In other words solid but unspectacular.  Griffey Jr. is solid, but spectacular.  Defense, power, average, run production, and high light reels good.  Boras's opinions of Drew's capabilities I believe are speculation.  Of course the only way to prove that is to have Drew play, but it looks like it will be a cold day in hell before that happens.

On to something of more meaning.  NHL Playoffs are still going strong.  My picks to be in the Stanley Cup Final are Buffalo and Dallas.  I said in my earlier columns that Hasek could steal a cup if he got hot and did not chicken out.  Guess who's hot.  Hasek has been incredible.  In the west, My picks did a little better.  I said Dallas or Colorado.  Well Colorado died, quickly thankfully.  Dallas has done a good job though.  They lost a center but they are still competing even though the center was very important to there team.  I just hope they beat a rapidly rising Detroit franchise.  I still think Dallas is going to win the cup.

My 2 cents,
