German Purchases for Day 7 (that we know of):
1 (possibly 2) Rifle Companies
Pregame thoughts
This would be the first CG date where the whole Western board edge was open for German entry and I was worried that Rob might do that. We setup one and a half reserve companies along the Western board edge with a few real units intermixed. The fire in the L15 factory would help split the German's attack on the big factory. We purchased a pillbox (N16) to cover the road between the factories to make it harder for the German's to cross and hit the factory from the side. Jim placed an ATG where it could hit the abandoned StuG next to the big factory and put his OBA spotter well off to the side, near the east board edge. My spotter was on the roof of the L27 factory with a mortar and another mortar on the roof of the P34 factory to hit any German's coming in from offboard. I had a few HIP HMG's in my line along the east-west road and my 9-2 ready to set the C25 building on fire.
Turn 1
The Germans attacked my side heavily through the rubbled C19 building where my three suicide squads met them. They also hit the fortified H15 and retook it (I only had a dummy in it). On Jim's side, JR started building up in the big factory behind the interior walls and a couple squads tried to get across the street, only to be met by fire from the pillbox. JR also started pushing down the river's edge. The fire in the L15 factory starts to spread. Jim tries to kill the StuG but fails and the German's break the gun crew and force it to retreat.
Turn 2
My OBA comes down in the street outside the C19 building and breaks all the Germans in the FFE. Accurate fire and help from our sniper results in nearly everyone (friend and foe) in C19 being broken by the end of the turn. The German's recrew the StuG. I set C25 on fire.
Turn 3
I lose my OBA (rolled boxcars for contact, damn!). It also starts to rain this turn. Rob tries to skirt the burning rubble around L15 and gets caught in the open by my MG fire, I do little damage beyond breaking a number of squads. JR continues his buildup in the big factory and starts trying to force the openings in the interior walls. A lot of fire is exchanged at point blank range and we lose a few squads over several fire phases. The German's stop trying to cross the road in front of the pillbox because everything in the L12 factory is now broken.
In our turn, Jim attacks across into the L12 factory and retakes a location. Since it is now pretty clear Rob doesn't intend to attack the southwest side, an 8-1 moves up to the B hexrow to start lighting fires.
Turn 4
Rob starts to exert his freedom of movement now that I have no OBA and brings in reinforcements around A24 and pushing down the railroad tracks and towards H19. A 10-2 and MG firegroup assembles in F19 to hit my HMG positions. Rob finds H19 is covered by minefields. JR blows a DC in the big factory to breach the interior wall at O11-O12, not much results of this attack and Jim and JR settle back into hacking each other to bits in the gutted building. Our sniper gets reduced to 3 by a successful sniper check. B40 goes up in flames. JR's attack on the river bank gets halted by minefields and he pushes south towards the Commissar's House, forcing Jim to lose some ground. JR also tries to take out our troops in the L12 factory and loses 3 squads in HtH CC!
Turn 5
Rob pushes hard around F21, taking several building locations and nearly capturing two of my HMG's that were in G22. The HMG's try to escape through the trench and get shot up by the 10-2. C25 fills with Germans also but the fire starts to burn out of control and the Germans pull out again after a hex collapses into the street and kills two squads and an 8-1. JR and Jim hack at each other some more in the big factory and JR takes a few more hexes towards the Commissar's House.
Our counterattack in L12 takes 3 more hexes and forces Rob to shift nearly half a company to redress the balance. A concealed 527 goes into CC with two 548's and a 9-1 and survives the melee (no one dies), I move a 628 closer to help next turn hopefully.
Turn 6
My reinforcements coming from the south finally hold up Rob's attack and my HMG's manage to slip away before the German's can get them. Rob fails to kill my 527 in CC and the 9-1 gets wounded. JR settles back to consolidate what he has. Rob's reinforcements to L12 finally stop our attack after we retook 5 locations. Rob bumps into my 9-2 along the railroad tracks and stops moving there too. He drops OBA onto I21 but it has little affect.
I reinforce the melee with the 628 and skulk everywhere else, Jim follows suite on hs side of the map. My 628 rolls snake-eyes against the wounded 9-1 and a 548, then withdraws to the basement after wiping the blood from their knives. My 527 takes out the other 548 but dies in the process.
