Card Strategies

These are card strategies I have come up with to help you in the Pokemon Card game. Most of these don't require card combos, but I have included some that do at the bottom.

Single Card Strategies

Alakazam: Alakazam is a great card to have in a Psychic deck. It's Pokemon power which allows any Pokemon that turn to reattach one of it's damage counters to another one of your Pokemon as long as it doesn't knock it out; this is great because Alakazam can keep doing damage and then transfering the damage it recieves back onto the Pokemon on your bench. All this accumulated damage can be wiped away with a Pokecenter!

Gyrados: Gyrados is good for any water deck. It's Dragon Rage does 50 damage for only 3 water energy. WOW!

Dewgong: Dewgong is also another must for most water decks. It's Aurora Beam costs 2 water and 1 colorless energy and does 50 damage!

Dodrio: Dodrio is good in any deck that contains larger Pokemon. It's Pokemon power decreases the amount needed to retreat a Pokemon. This is good for those large Pokemon that you need to take out of action to heal up so then you don't have to power them up so much when you are ready to bring them back out.

Caterpie and Weedle: Caterpie and Weedle are good to switch in at the beginning of your turn so they have a chance to do a little damage and a side affect.

Staryu and Machop: If you have a water or fighting deck, these are the two cards you want at least 3 of. They both have an attack that only costs one and does 20 damage. Good for Beatdown Decks.

Horsea: Horsea is one of the wimpiest, best Pokemon out! IT's attack doesn't do much, but if you can get some lucky tosses you can prevent all damage from an opponent's Pokemon.

Magmar: The Magmar from the first set is almost totally worthless, but the one from Fossil is great. Magmar from Fossil is good because it can do the exact same thing as Horsea and it even has another attack that can do 20 for only 2 fire and has a chance to poison!

Seaking: If you even want to bother with Goldeen, you might as well evolve it into Seaking. Seaking's Waterfall attack does 30 damage for only 1 water and 1 colorless energy.

Omanyte: Omanyte's power to make the other player play with their hand face up on the table is good. This way you can anticipate what things he/she will use.

Vaporeon: This is one of the weakest forms of the evolution of Eevee in the game, but in the cardgame this card can be good. It's Quick attack for 2 colorless does 10 damage + if you flip a heads it does 20 more! Vaporeon's Water Gun is alright too, costing 2 water and 1 colorless it does 30 + 10 for each water energy after that(to a max of two) which wasn't included in the casting cost.

Gengar: Gengar doesn’t have very good attacks, but his Pokemon power is awsome. He can sit on the bench and knock out other Pokemon! What it does is it allows you to transfer 1 damage counter from one of the opponent's Pokemon to another once per turn. So all you have to do is do damage to an active Pokemon with another Pokemon and then have Gengar switch the damage over to one of his/her better Pokemon!

Mr. Mime: Mr. Mime is argueably the best Pokemon in this game! It's Pokemon power only allows damage under 30 only! So if a person gets real tough and sends out a Charizard, don't worry; just send out Mr. Mime and watch them cry!

Gastly(Fossil): The Ghastly from Fossil is good. It's Lick move does 10 damage and paralyzes the active Pokemon. It then has an attack to retrieve two energy from your discard pile for only 2 Psychich energy. This is one easy way to keep the enemt Pokemon off your back and then get some free energy!

Diglett: Diglett's Mud Slap is good because it only costs 2 fighting energy and does 30 damage. Good for Beatdown decks!

Geodude: If you get lucky coin tosses, Geodude is the Pokemon you wanna be. His Stone Barrage costs 1 fighting and 1 colorless. You then get to flip a coin. The damage results in 10 x the #of heads!

Arbok: Arbok is great for a side affect Pokemon. It's Terror Strike attack does 10 damage and if you flip heads your opponent must switch his actibe Pokemon with a benched one! Also, it's Poison Fang attack does 20 and poisons the other Pokemon without a flip!

Beedrill: Beedrill is good if you want to do some heavy damage. It's Twin Needle attack does 40 damage for 3 grass and has a chance to poison. In other words, 50 damage if you posion the other Pokemon + another ten after their turn!

Golduck: Golduck can do 20 damage with it's Hyper Beam and on top of that, the attack makes the other person discard an energy card attached to one of their benched Pokemon. This is one good way to keep their really strong Pokemon powered down!

Ponyta: Ponyta is a great card to have in ANY deck. It's Smash Kick requires 2 colorless energy for 20 damage and Flame Tail does 30 for only 2 Fire energy!

Krabby and Kingler: Krabby and Kingler are awsome in a water deck. After you send Krabby out as an active pokemon you can use Call For Family and get more up there. Then, when it evolves into Kingler, it's Crabhammer does 40 damage for 2 water and 1 colorless energy!

Rapidash: Rapidash is really just a better form of Horsea or Magmar combined with Ponyta! The Agility attack does 30 damage and if you flip heads it prevents all damage next turn!

Golem: Golem's avalanche does 60 damage for only 3 fighting and 1 colorless energy…and you don't even have to discard a card!!

Rattatta: Rattatta is a better form of Staryu or Machop, it does 20 for 2 colorless!

Parasect: Parasect is good to do damage without getting damaged back. You can put the defending Pokemon to sleep with Spore and then do 30 damage every turn with slash for 3 colorless energy

Raticate: Raticate is one of the best Pokemon in the game, no kidding! It's Hyper Fang attack does damage equal to 1/2 the defending Pokemon's HP. So let's say that the other person sends out a Charizard that isn't powered up all the way. Raticate gets it down to 50 in one turn, down to 20 in another, and then finnishes it off with it'sBite attack!

Dragonite: Dragonite doesn’t really have a good attack unless you can flip really well. It does 40 x the # of heads, you get 2 flips. One good thing about it is that you can change your active Pokemon with a benched one for free once dyring your turn; with Dragonite's Pokemon power!

Clefable: Clefable is good against large Pokemon. Lets say that your opponent sends out a Charizard with 100 HP and knocks out your active Pokemon. Your next turn you send out Clefable. You use Metranome for only 1 Colorless energy and copy Firespin for 100 Damage!!! nd you don't even have to discard the 2 cards or pay the 4 fire required for Charizard to use the attack.

Hypno: Hypno's Dark Mind is good because it does 30 damage + 10 damage to one of your opponent's benched Pokemon. It's Prophecy attack is also good because it is literally just a copy of Pokedex only you can only look at three cards…but they may also be from your opponent's deck!

Ninetails: Ninetails is good because it can Lure for 2 colorless and switch the opponent's active Pokemon with a benched one. It can also do 80 damage and only have to discard 1 fire energy!

Aerodactly: Aerodactyl is the card you want to play against an evolution deck. It's Pokemon Power says that no more evolution cards may be played as long as Aerodactyl is not asleep, confused or paralyzed! It also has a wing attack for 3 colorless that does 30, you can't lose!

Vileplume: Vileplume can be on your bench and act as a Pokecenter! You get to flip every turn with it's Pokemon Power. If you get heads you remove 1 damage counter from any one of your Pokemon! Hey…I didn't know Nurse Joy was in the game!!

Kangaskhan: Kangaskhan is good in Stall decks. It's fetch allows you to get cards quickly, while it's large amount of Hp's allows it to stay active for a long time while you power up. Dragonite serves the same purpose only better.

Clefairy: See Clefable, it has Metranome attack as well as sing!

Venasaur: Venasaur's Pokemon Power allows you to transfer energy from it to another Pokemon. This is a good way to help power up additional Pokemon. It also has Solar Beam which does 60 damage for only 4 grass energy!

Double Card Strategies

Venasaur and Charizard: Venasaur and Charizard work very well together in a deck. Venasaur can transfer it's energy onto Charizard and get it powered up faster to use it's Firespin attack. Now, you might be thinking, "that is stupid, Charizard only takes fire energy for that attack!," well, guess again, it makes perfect sense. Charizard's special Pokemon Power allows it to change all energy on it to fire energy! Time to use Firespin!

Slowbro and Alakazam: Slowbro and Alakazam also work well together. Alakazam's special ability allows it to transfer energy off of itself onto another Pokemon. Slowbro's allows an infinite number of damage counters to go to itself once per turn as long as you don't knock it out. Therefore if Alakazam is almost ready to faint, you use it's ability to take one energy off and give it to another Pokemon and then use Slowbro to clear the rest!
