Pokemon Cardgame Rulebook:

I have tried to make these rules as simple as possible, if you have any questions or comments you can e-mail me.

Starting the Game:To start the game you and an opponent shuffle your decks and draw 7 cards each. To see who goes first, flip a coin. After this you and your opponent lay down your basic Pokemon. To tell if a Pokemon is a basic or evolution, look in the upper lefthand corner. If you have no basic cards, you must shuffle your hand back into your deck and draw again. The other player gets to draw one card, but only on the first mulligan. After placing all of your basic cards face down on the table, choose one and slide it ahead of the others, this is your "active pokemon". Then you and your partner flip the cards over.

Your Turn: After you and your opponent flip over the basic Pokemon cards the person who won the flip goes first. The very first thing you do in a turn is draw a card. After this is done you may play 1 energy on any pokemon you choose(on your side), play trainer cards(as many as you want), use a Pokemon power. You may do these in any order. The last thing you do on a turn is attack with your active Pokemon. To do this, announce that you are attacking and which move you will use. Make sure you have enough of the right amount of energy to use the attack. You do not discard energy used unless otherwise specified.

Attacking: The first step to attacking is making sure you have enough energy. After this announce you are attacking and which attack you will use. Then you deal damage. However, you may not just do the damage the attack specifies. If the Pokemon has a weakness to your type, it does double the damage!! If it is resistant to your pokemon's type, it does only half the damage(unless it is 10). Your attack may also cause some sort of special side effect, either automaticaly, with a flip, or none at all.

Special Side effects: Confusion: If a Pokemon becomes confused you must flip a coin to try to attack or retreat. If you try to attack and get a tails, the attack does 20 damage to you and the attack doesn't do anything, if you get heads the attack goes through. A Pokemon becomes unconfused when you use a Full Heal on it. If you try to retreat a confused Pokemon, you must go ahead and pay the cost, then flip a coin, on tails you stay out, if heads you can withdraw.

Paralyzed: If a Pokemon becomes Paralyzed it can't attack or retreat. It recovers after the player next turn unless you use a Full Heal.

Asleep: If a Pokemon is asleep it can’t attack or retreat. After each players turn you get to flip a coin. If heads you are awake, if not you are still asleep and must wait until the end of the next players turn to flip again.

Pokemon Powers: Pokemon Powers may be used only once during your turn. They are displayed before the attacks on the card, just belowe the picture. Some Pokemon do not have any
