Fury Awakens

[IC]
Fury's first sensation is PAIN. It's a pain that hangs in the back of the skull. Pure, corporeal pain, pounding with every heartbeat, a strong pressure behind the eyes. She can taste the acidic flavor of brimstone in her mouth, a filmy residue over her teeth and gums.

Something's wrong with her eyes. She can feel Symphonic disturbance echoing not too far off. Her entire body feels numb, and tingling painfully. In her dazed state, she feels something cold agaist her wrists, and a voice pierces through the fog of pain.

"What happened up there, Xery?"

Sounds like . . . a Vassal of Judgement? From outside, whose hat she'd complimented. She can feel the hard cold pavement against her face now. It's rough and painful.

"It's all right, I recognize you from your file. I'm in charge here."

Xery feels her body coming back to life, the numbness is fading as the pain of the pins and needles subsides. She realizes she can move her body now. The pain in her head is subsiding slightly with each painful breath of air poisoned by the taste of brimstone in her mouth.

Fury opens her eyes a crack and sees only brownish-grey "snow". "Blind?" she asks in a voice that's much too low for even herself to hear. Then she turns her head and bright light assaults her retinas. "Ow," she says, chastising herself mentally for being eloquent as usual.

Slowly she gets up, not quite at even normal human speed but still moving. "That sucked." Her eyes roll upward to the Dominican standing above her. "Still a nice hat. What went on? Hm. Went to Denny's , figured the city out, went to the police station, heard a disturbance. Came over here to check it out. You waved me through, I went upstairs, I hesitated at the roof, heard some guy breaking some other guy's neck, kicked the door in, tried to catch some other guy from falling off the roof, and things started sucking /royally/. Well, not really, I guess that started when I regained consciousness. Dammit, I thought he was an /angel/..."

"Now you're talking nonsense," says the officer, who's helping to hold her up. His voice becomes softer, "I'm Chief Mer, Vassal of Judgement. You're still on the crime scene and we've got lots of normals running around. Shut up about angels and demons."

Fury's eyes are beginning to clear, the brown is receding back to the edges of her vision.

"We'll talk to Chief Detective Neelon," says the Chief. "Maybe we can figure put what happened up there."

The Chief chuckles a bit and places his firm hand on Fury's shoulder.

While Fury's throbbing pain seems to be diminishing, there's the *certainity* about its Infernal origin that nags. The fact that Lucifer himself would have taken a personal interest in the little scuffle on the roof . . .

But the visual effects are certainly subsiding. Although light sensitive, Fury is gaining more field of vision with each passing moment as the fuzz recedes more and more into her peripheral (sp?) vision.

"Come with me," says the Chief. He leads Fury with a strong sense of direction. "I have pair of sunglasses you may borrow if the pain gets to you too much."

"Nah, I think that'll be all right." She shields her eyes from the flashing lights. "Enough to give a girl epilepsy. So are we going back to the police station? Do I have to leave my bike here?" She looks over at where she parked her motorcycle.

The bike's still there, waiting patiently for her return.

"We're surrounded by police officers, Xery," says the Chief. "And we have the area sealed off. I think it'll be all right."
