Scene of Disturbance

"Go on," says the officer motioning for Fury to follow the tall fellow, "you'll find me again soon enough."

The sounds of auotmatic gunfire ripple through the night air, coming from the same direction as the Disturbance.

"Shit, /you/?" Fury looks kind of stunned for a moment, then shrugs it off and bolts out the door. She nearly trips over her bike in an attempt to get to it more quickly, hops on, starts it up as fast as she can, and gets out to the street in record time - but not soon enough to see where the gaunt man had headed.

Indeed, the squad car he gotten into has already taken off and ducked into traffic.

The angel swears loudly and in several languages, then revs the engine and slips effortlessly into traffic, homing in on the disturbance. [Area Knowledge, Perry, where would that be, roughly?]

[Fury, Ofanite resonance, TN=7 1, 3, CD5 - success The source of the disturbance appears to be roughly in the vicinity of the southernmost corner of False Creek where it meets the mainland]

As Fury approaches, the Disturbance in the symphony is matched by the sounds of police sirens. There appears to be crowd gathered around the base of Science World. Fury sees a few men coming out of the bottom with their hands on their heads; they're being greeted by a number of police officers armed with uzis, double barrelled shotguns, and bullet-proof armor.

The epicenter of the Disturbance appears to be coming from the roof of Science World. Fury sees no sign of the tall, lanky man. Not surprising, given her Ofanite talents.

Fury walks past whatever barricade the police have set up; she's an Ofanite, she can do that. Her demeanor is that of a person who knows that they belong here, and firmly believes that everyone else should know this too. She'll produce ID for anyone who asks for it, but her goal is Science World.

"All right," says an officer who approaches her, "I'm glad you're here." He smiles a knowing smile, "Go on up, we'll keep the area secure for you from down here."

"Great, thanks." She winks as she passes. "Nice hat."

The man /looks/ familiar to Fury, something about the way he's holding himself, or perhaps . . .

[Perception roll 1, 2, CD5]

. . . his eyes. With her angelic senses she's been able to sense his Distinction, a Vassal of Conscience, little doubt he recognizes *her* from Judgement's comprehensive files on all known servitors of Fire, especially those who are accomplished.

[OOGM: Distinctions cannot be sensed actively, only passively when a Celestial decides to "unveil" their rank and title. One can reveal rank (Vassal, Friend, Master, Knight, Captain, Baron) without revealing title (of the Shareholders, of Valor, of Deception, of Gremlins), but not title without rank.

The doors to Science World fail to break her stride; she catches the edge of one as a cop lets it go and pulls it open in front of her. She doesn't know the blueprint of the building, but a staircase readily presents itself, and - carrying with her the logic that going up is the best way to get to the roof from the ground - she heads up.

"It's all right," she hears from behind her, "she's a special agent."

Within the building there is relative silence, at least on the physical plane. The Symphony still rocks from the Disturbance, however, and its epicenter is certainly from above.

The stairs aren't too hard to locate, and as Fury ascends them, she can hear voices from above.

" . . . me more about Ruax, what did he have you do in his service?" The voice is severe, as though it can barely tolerate those it is addressing.

"Who's Ruax?" Fury thinks to herself. "And what did he have these guys doing?" She continues up the staircase. She /is/ supposed to be here, after all.

Then she pauses.

Three years ago, at the Transamerica Pyramid. Fury had been on a seek-and-detain mission; the target had holed himself up in the Pyramid, and Fury hadn't been able to convince the police to evacuate the building.

The target, a demon named Gareth, finally took a hostage from the 22nd floor, and hightailed it up to the 48th, where he took the single office's single inhabitant hostage as well. When Fury arrived, she heard a conversation between them:

"...so you tell me the codes for the building, and I'll let you live." "Son of a bitch! Fine." A series of letters and numbers, obviously a password, was rattled off - but Fury burst in before it could be completed, guns out, and watched Gareth fire a single bullet through the other man's skull, destroying his brain and shattering a window. Fury was stunned into inaction by the disturbance, and Gareth leapt out the broken window with the other hostage, laughing all the way to the ground.

Fury shakes her head as she returns to the present day. "Move slowly," she thinks, and quietly, slowly proceeds up the stairs.

"We, we got a hold of this guy," comes another voice, obviously scared and in a state of shock. "And, uh, we helped to put him into this, thing."

"What thing?" demands the severe voice.

"I . . . I dunno man! He just had him strapped in it, like one of those chairs at a hairdressers with that thing over your head, man! Just don't kill me!!"

"Who??"

"Ruax, I"

"No, in the chair, idiot."

"He called, called him Jed," says another voice, obviously shaking, but not as scared.

"Jedial?" asks the harsh voice.

"Yeah, yea" But the man's voice is broken by the sound of his neck doing the same.

By now Fury is just behind the door leading to the outside of the roof. From the other side comes the smell of flesh blood, sulfur and a lot of spent ammo. There's also a faint light streaming from beneath the door, that of a fading song of Nimbus, clearly angelic.

Fury is frozen - surely an unnatural state for an Ofanite. She blinks once, twice - she waited, and her waiting caused someone's death, by the hands of someone who seems to be crueler than his angelic disposition would warrant. "Dammit," she whispers, "I can't win!"

Then she kicks the door in.

As the door crumples beneathe her powerful foot, she sees the last of the light from the Holy Numinous Corpus drawn back into a man (6'6", nice shoulders, handsome, looks to be in good shape), who now drops the limp body of another, glances in Fury's direction for a split second and sings a powerful Song of Thunder, to hopefully stop the man who's running for the side of the roof.

As the second man, skinny and pale in the lamp light, touches off the side of the roof, the song of Thunder pounds through his skull like a freight-train, stunning him long enough for him to hit the ground a like a sack of potatos.

For the Ofanite, however, the situation appears to be even more grave. In her attempt to resist the effects of the Thunder, something has snapped inside of her mind, and she falls to the ground, apparently more than stunned.

The Malakite rushes over to the side of the roof, and watches as the man he just sent sailing has apparently also taken a bit of a spill, and looks to be out cold as well. Moving over towards Fury, Adam Freeman, aka Adomikam Mal'akh of Destiny, examines her vessel.

"She shouldn't be unsonscious," he murmurs to himself. Peering at her closer, he gets a strong whiff of sulpher. "Lucifer's handiwork," he thinks to himself, "best to get out of here."

Gathering the unconscious angel in his arms, he begins to descend the stairs to face the police below.
