Jezreel Arrives At Science World |
![]() |
Realizing that the echoes are fading, Jezreel listens intently to
try and fix a distance in her mind while she can still hear them. She
follows hurriedly behind the detective, making sure that he seems to be
going in the right direction.
As Jezreel and Michnelion exit the police station and get into the squad car, the sounds of automatic gunfire scream across the evening sky, matching the feeling of disturbance in the symphony. Jezreel shutters at the sound of the gunfire. Unlike most of her human peers, she is not prone to watching television and thus has not been desensitized the reality of what such a sound means. Other squad cars have already left the station, only a few remain. Jezreel notes that among those leaving the station parking lot includes a motorcycle, not part of the what feels like the normal police crew. Curious about the motorcycle but not having time to inspect it now, I file the thought away for later. I do, however, try to get a look a the licence plate, so that I can check that angle out later. [OOC: I'll get back to this one, don't let me forget. :] Over the police scanner Jezreel can hear, "We've got some major gunfire here." "Where are we?" asks Michnelion over the scanner. "We're at Science World, sir," comes the reply. Michnelion cocks an eyebrow at that. "Detective Neelon is on his way," he says into his scanner. Jezreel listens to the conversation with wide, frightened eyes. "People are dying, aren't they, sir?" she asks.
[Michnelion] Jezreel nods slowly, not bothering to hide the fear that is welling inside her. "Yes, sir," she says solemnly. With a flick of a switch the sirens on the top of the squad car are armed and screaming. Everyone on the road parts for Detective Neelon and Jezreel as they speed to the scene. All excitement gone, Jezreel watches out the window, trying to see the source of the Echoes and the gunfire. Ahead, to the right, she can see the reflections of False Creek, and atop a building it looks like bright flashes of light, coming behind the sounds, not unlike the relationship between lightning and thunder.
[Chary]
I suggest you at least grab a map of Vancouver on-line, www.dogpile.com can
easily direct you there. False Creek is, like, the bay next to downtown
Vancouver. :)
[Chary]
...
But, it's too dark to see much other than that.
Despite the seeming futility of it, Jezreel continues staring into the
darkness, if only to have something to do...
The street lights seem almost mystical in this strange sensation. The physical world seeming state of panic and the still pounding disturbance of the symphony feel very much to parallel each other. Just as the other cars part for Michelion's path of travel, humanity is literally parting for two angels in pursuit of those who have disturbed the symphony, God's creation, God's work.
The young Seraph gives a sad smile at this small Revelation, thinking it
the whispered wisdom of the Symphony trying to keep her from panicking in
the face of this grim situation.
[OOC: Kewl :]
[Chary] OOC: Thanks... :)
"We've got three people who've come out unarmed and who have surrendered completely to the authorities. We've asked them what's going on up on the roof, but they have so far said nothing except for one man who appears to want to speak with a . . .," the voice pauses a moment, "with a priest."
Not really sure of the importance of those words, Jezreel asks the older
Angel, "Is that bad, sir?"
"How does the man feel to you?" asks the detective over the scanner.
"Uh, scared, sir. Scared and he's currently praying, if I'm not mistaken. The
others seem a bit scared, too, lke they've seen a ghost or something."
"Ok." To Jezreel Neelon says, "No, its not necessarily bad, but its not
necessarily good, either. From that statement plus the Disturbance, I'd say
we've got something on our hands that will warrent a full investigation."
Jezreel nods at Michelion's statement. "Yes, sir," she says quietly.
OOC: *I* know that it's not a good thing if a gun-wielding person in
position to kill either himself or others wants to see a priest, that you
don't want them thinking of death under those circumstances, but somehow I
think that would be outside of Jezreel's experience.
Jezreel waits patiently for Michelion to finish his questions to his
people over the scanner, figuring he must be gathering the information he
needs to answer her question. She listens intently to the conversation,
trying to glean what she can from the conversation while she waits.
[OOC: Not much else, you've arrived]
OOC: Gotcha boss... :)
The squad car pulls up to Science World, already there's a crowd held at bay by the Vancouver PD. Several squad cars, the same motorcycle Jezreel saw pulling out of the station is here, too.
[Jezreel]
Detective Neelon turns off the car engine and exits the vehicle.
[Jezreel]
"Ok, what do we got?" he asks a nearby officer.
"A hostage situation up top, we think."
"Hmmm . . ." muses Neelon. "Do we have anyone up there?"
"No, sir, not yet."
"Jezreel," says the Detective, "This is Officer . . ." he pauses to look at the man's badge, "Davis. Officer Davis, this is a young trainee of mine, would you go ask for permission from the officer in charge for us to look around the bottom of the building?"
[Jezreel]
"Yessir." The officer disappears into the crowd officers. It is notable that their weaponry appears to be rather heavy. More than pistols and rifles, there can be seen light automatic weapons and a rocket launcher.
[Jezreel]
Michnelion puts a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Murder," he says, "Is not
of the Light, but as you know, we are no longer in the light, but rather in the
twilight zone between the light and the darkness. We walk the line in hopes of
making the light stronger and pushing back the darkness a bit further."
Jezreel nods solemnly, silently reflecting on the elder Angel's words
before speaking. "Is it always like this?" she asks, without explaining
what she means by 'it'.
"I believe you already know the answer to that question."
Jezreel thinks for a long moment before nodding slowly.
People are still gathering, and still the police ask that they disperse for
their own protection. The disturbance to symphony is diminishingly slightly,
just as the quiet of the evening is beginning to reassert itself.
"The true question is," states the Elohite, "to what extent can we, as upholders
of the Law," and by Law, the Elohite clearly means something more than mortal
rules and regulations, "interfere with these people's lives. To what extent can
we try to save them when what they really need is a chance to save themselves?"
Jezreel silently takes that in for a moment. Then she asks, "The Symphony
will help me to know that, won't it?" She seems simultaneously wide-eyed
and very solemn.
[Neelon]
At the Elohite's simple but direct one word answer, some of the solemnity
slides from Jezreel's face. She gives the older Angel a pleasant smile,
looking tremendously relieved.
As Fury approaches, the Disturbance in the symphony is matched by the sounds
of police sirens. There appears to be crowd gathered around the base of
Science World. Fury sees a few men coming out of the bottom with their
hands on their heads; they're being greeted by a number of police officers
armed with uzis, double barrelled shotguns, and bullet-proof armor.
The epicenter of the Disturbance appears to be coming from the roof of
Science World. Fury sees no sign of the tall, lanky man. Not surprising,
given her talents.
[Chris, could you please give a physical description of Fury for Charybdis' character here? She can see you, but you haven't seen her yet.]
Fury walks past whatever barricade the police have set up. Her demeanor is that of a person who knows that
they belong here, and firmly believes that everyone else should know this
too. She'll produce ID for anyone who asks for it, but her goal is Science
World.
"Who is that," asks Detective Neelon of the cop next to him.
"I don't know, sir."
[Jezreel]
Jezreel sees the lisence plate of the motorcycle now, the same one as she saw pulling out of the station: GABEFIRE
[Jezreel]
Neelon's head follows her finger. "Not yet," he says.
Jezreel shrugs. "I just thought you might since it was parked at
the station before we left. Whoever it was made good time because they got
here before we did..."
Detective Neelon turns to the young Seraph, "Interesting. No, I don't believe I know who that is, I didn't get a good look at her face. Firey, though, isn't she?"
[Jezreel]
And Michnelion arches his eyebrow a bit.
Not quite sure how to read that expression, Jezreel glances in the
direction the "special agent" disappeared. Then back at Michelion
again... "Are you *sure* you don't want me to go an talk to her?" she asks.
"Later," says the Detective, "I assure you that at least I myself will be
speaking with her later, and it would be good to have your Seraph talents
present for that meeting."
[Fury]
Jezreel can see that a few more officers began to follow the mysterious figure, but fell back after someone shouted something at them.
Something about a special agent . . .
[Jezreel]
"A special agent is a person who has been specially trained to handle situations
which are uncommon," says Detective Neelon.
Jezreel nods, even though that explanation is pretty vague. "Oh,"
she says, not really sure why that should cause the other officers to seem
to have more respect for the mysterious woman.
"I want to know who that is," says Michnelion, his voice flat an unemotional.
"Shall I go ask her, sir?" Jezreel asks in all seriousness.
"It looks like we won't have a chance to at the moment. Jezreel, I'd like you
to, ah, Detective Ross."
The tall detective appears from within the crowd. "Sorry I'm late, had to take
a leak."
"Very well," says Detective Neelon. "Why don't you two take a look around the
grounds for anything unusual. And Ross," says the angel, "Educate the young
angel on what is and isn't unusual, ok?"
Detective Ross nods.
"Yes, sir," Jezreel says to Michelion. Then she turns to face
Detective Ross. "Where should we start, sir? I assume we will want to
start at one location and make a systematic search... Outer perimeter and
work in?" she asks.
[OOGM: Krikies, for sanity's sake lett's assume that Jezreel learns a bit about what's normal and whatt's not. We can have a little representive role-playing here to reflect that.]
Okay, Jez," says the human detective as he points to one of the side doors of the building. "Take a look at the lock on this door."
Pushing back her desire to ask Detective Ross why humans so often
feel they have to shorten names, Jezreel peers intently at the lock he is
indicating...
