Wolf 359

The star, Wolf 359, as viewed from Earth.

Wolf 359 is the third-closest star system to that of the Earth sun, Sol, at about 2.35 parsecs, or 7.6 light-years. In the infamous battle of the Sector, the Borg (circa stardate 44000) routed some 40 Starfleet ships in Admiral Hanson's Armada. They didn't last long enough for expected Klingon aid.

The Star, Wolf 359, is a Red Dwarf Star on the dim end of the spectrum of main sequence stars and is a little on the cool side at about 2,430 Kelvin, unlike Sol which is a G star and has a temperature of about 6000 Kelvin. It is only 1/100th the brightness of Sol.

Known as a red dwarf - dwarf referring to its size, and red referring to the part of the electromagnetic spectrum where most of its energy is emitted, it has no known companions within a 1 AU (Astronomical Unit) radius.
