The Nexus is the Town Hall unit for the Protoss. This pyramid-shaped structure produces Probes, as well as houses the resources that your Probes gather. |

The Pylon is the Supply unit for the Protoss. It is also required before you can construct any buildings. It makes a Psi radius that you must build in. It is very similar to the Creep, except for the fact that you can't see Psi. If you click on a Pylon, it shows where all your Psi areas are so you know where to build. But unlike the Creep, if a Pylon is destroyed, all the buildings inside the Pylon's Psi matrix will shut down unless there is another Pylon supporting the building. |

The Assimilator is the building that allows you to harvest gas. You build one of these on top of a gas mine, then your Probes will be able to gather gas. |

Gateways produce the infantry units for the Protoss. They are essential as they are also the base of the Tech Tree. You will want at least 2 or 3 of these buildings, as the units produced at them take a while to build. Also, when your are building something from it, you can't tell by looking for flickering lights like the Barracks, or Eggs sitting around like a Hatchery. So enemy forces cannot tell if your Gateways are active or not until they see something pop out of it. |

Shield Batteries are incredibly useful, but no one ever bothers to use them. This is probably due to the fact that they are hard to manage in battle. They recharge the shields of your units. So what you do with them is you place 2 or 3 by your entrance to your base, and when your defense engages in battle, you can run them back and recharge their shields making them last much longer. |

The Cybernetics core is the building that gives you the big jump in your Tech Tree. It is the branch to all the Advanced Buildings. It is also the upgrade center for your Air Units. |

The Photon Cannon is the defensive building for the Protoss. It is the only defense building that can attack both ground and air besides the Bunker, but that doesn't really count. It doesn't last very long and it shoots slowly, but if you have the right combination and number of Cannons and Troops, you'll have a pretty good defense. |
