Corwin and Syngnath
WAVELEADER OF MARITIME WING
~Jasra Warren~

Corwin
POSITION: Waveleader of Maritime Wing
AGE: 28
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Blond hair and sea-green eyes. Rugged and physical. Strong arms with old rope-burn scars. Face is wind-roughened, yet attractive.
HEIGHT: 6' 4"
WEIGHT: 215 lbs
DRESS: Usually wears loose-fitting pants and seal-skin jerkin, though prefers going bare-chested.
PERSONALITY: Salty and brusque. He is loyal to a fault to those he considers his friends. Honest and candid. Having been at sea most of his life he has some good stories to tell, and knows how to tell them. Speaks a number of different languages.

DRAGON: Syngnath (Sy for short)
COLOR: Sea-foam green. Coral-pink eyes.
ABILITIES: Sy is a seadragon, and can breathe under water. He has the ability to allow his rider to do the same. He is equally at home in the sea, on land, and in the air. Prefers to sleep in a nest of wet sand -- like a sea turtle.
PERSONALITY: Gregarious. Enjoys the company of humans, but has difficulty figuring out warren dragons. Rather naive.

HISTORY: Corwin has been at sea since he was a cabin boy at about age 8 when he was indentured by his father to the captain for the price of a drink. Corwin has avoided all memories of his past -- even to the point of not remembering his family name.

Through hard work and strong discipline, he has earned the trust of all of the captains he has served under, and worked his way up through the ranks to first mate. He had been onboard the Eileen Collins for 5 years until his captain ignored Corwin's advice to return to the last port with the approach of a storm, and continued on to Cabral. Corwin would never know how many of his crewmates were lost, as a sudden wave broke the railing he was leaning against, and he was washed out to sea, clutching the fragments in his hands.

Corwin thought he was a goner, too, as he slipped under the waves, until a dark form came up from the deep. The Sea Dragon hatchling called to him as he felt his lungs filling with water -- only to discover that he could breathe. His body was supported from below, and he thankfully wrapped his arms around the long, soft... neck?

"I am Syngnath and you are my rider," a voice in his head told him.

Confusion and disbelief made Corwin feel giddy. "I'm losing my mind... or I am dead..."

"You are neither." Came the voice. "You are very much alive... but I am hungry and ... I can't carry you much farther."

The long neck curved around and the coral-pink eyes looked back into Corwin's sea-green eyes. Corwin thought, "You know what I'm thinking? And are you doing this -- I'm underwater, and yet.... I'm not drowning?" He looked up and could see the foam that was being created by the storm reflecting the flashes of lightening far, far above. His ship and its crew were no where to be seen -- and he realized that they were... flying, was the best description he could come up with, through the water.

"Yes. I heard your voice and came to you as soon as my egg released me," the hatchling seadragon replied.

Corwin remembered the urgency he'd felt since passing the last sand bar -- he'd attributed it to the coming storm.

"Here... we will be safe here. There is another... his name is Loki and he and his rider Gus know of somewhere to be safe from the storm, a place called Jasra Warren

"Another??" Corwin asked as they emerged from the foam onto a rocky beach.

A small charcoal dragon, only slightly larger than Syngnath came to them. Corwin slipped from his back, and falling into the water from exhaustion, felt hands pulling him forward.
