The main town you will be interested in will be Marshalton. Marshalton is ruled by (and named for) Lord Marshal Trainer. It, and the land around it, are in fief from Baron Elmadore. The Baron's country seat is in Lancaster.
Lord Trainers fief is ruled by Lord Trainer and the Lord's Knights. Traditionaly, the 10 Knights for a judicial council, and dispence the Lord's justice through his realm. There are more than 10 Knights, however only the First Ten, known collectively as the Lord's Knights, administer justice.
There are a limited number of Knights who don't serve as Lord's Knights. They roam the fief, serving as investigator and sometimes policeman. These Knight Errant's are not limited in any way other than their honor to do the right thing. Only after years of this service will a Knight accumulate enough clout to raise to Lord's Knight.
A faster, surer way is to ingraine oneself into the political world sourrounding the court, at Lord Trainer's Palace. Under the shadow of the Lord's Castle (more used by the Knights than Lord Trainer) lies a sprawlling, narcicistic palace. Inside these walls, alliances are made, broken, and shifted in a complex web of tangled favors and secrets. The court of Lord Trainer, filled with the psycophants and power-hungry of the land. Those that catch the Lord's eye, he gives a voice in the Grand Council. Those who do great enough deeds to become Knights have voice in the council as well. There are between 70 and 150 councilors serving at any given time. Any time one of the Lord's Knights steps down from office, dies, or is voted out, it is the council that votes in a replacement. One need not be a politician to be appointed to the council. Teachers, scholars, priests, and even honest farmers are also picked to serve by the Lord.
