The Beginning
In the beginning, there were three. Three bright-eyed adventurers drawn from around the world (OK, the town) to do great battle against Evil. OK, maybe it was the gold for some. Whatever their incentive, they were drawn together by a gnomish little man, Alfred. Promised 250 gold each, they were set upon the task of gathering for him apples from the tree, gaurded by goblins, and sold for dear prices. Little did they know what was in store for them, but they lept for the chance to adventure. The first three were Crush-More, Half-Orc Barbarian whos dreams were only of gold and battle. Morphine, the half-elf mage, whose intentions and plans were known only to himself. And Cassandra. A Halfling Cleric, walking in the Lawfull Good light, who wanted only to heal an old lady who had been kind to her. These three were joined a night later by a Ranger named Ian, and a Druid named Cheery. Bravely these five set out for the Sunless Citadel. A formidible underground fortress whose tale stands alone.
The Interem
Finally free of the sunless citadel, the adventurers were now at a loss for what to do. They had great dreams and plans, but money was still tight, and even with the power they had , they were not the great heroes they knew they could someday be. At this time, Vall left them, wandering off into the woods, seaking out the "Gods in everything." This was the last anyone saw of him. His fate is, to this day, unknown. In a short while, the group was approached by two, both with different intentions. A monk, Soko Hiruda, joined the band, seeking to test himself against the troubles he was sure would be faced by two men calling themselves "The greatest swordsman in the world!" Another, a rat-faced little man, had a quest for them. A stone, kept in a small old temple, was what he wanted. The group set out in search of the temple, and found another underground romp for themselves. This time, though the dangers were not much greater than those they had faced before, the tempo was higher. Beset by Owlbears, Orcs, and Golems, they prevailed.
Though Orcs are fierce fighters, they are not known for their briliance. A simple "Fire!" Shouted at them from Ranos, safely behind cover, caused them to waste their one chance to ambush the band.
The Monk WAS pushed down the steps.
Golems, on the other hand, are a fierce challenge, unless you happen to be Morfine. One blow from his quarterstaff knocked the Golems head off and killed him instantly.
Finally obtaining the item they saught, the group returned to twwn, a little richer for their troubles.
Once again, they set off for the Sunless Citadel, a final sweep to clean it out. On the way, an old hag, alone in a tent, stopped them and invited them to draw from a deck. This was a mixed blessing. The mage, Morefine, was lost at this juncture, killed by a lesser death, but items of wonderous power were gained.
Horvath gained a magical weapon and a necklace of magical beads.
Ranos gained a fine magical rapier, a keep, and a retainer.
Soko gained a ring that let his unarmed blow strike like lightning, and another that protected him well. This is when Gar joined him.
Cassandra gained a magical sling, with powers of frost.
Once more, and well armed, they finished their sweep of the sunless citadel, and moved on to their keep. Finding it occupeid by bandits, events proceeded to add the first sour note to the harmony of the group. Soko was incensed that bandits were bushwhacking the travellers along the road as they passed. He intended to destroy them, as a wrning to others not to try it. Ranos had other ideas, much to Soko's dismay, and here the trouble errupted.
Ranos, as was his way idly waved his rapier in Soko's face. It was an offhanded gesture, totally ignoring Soko in reality, but Soko's honor was insulted. Coldly, Soko staded "You bare your blade against me again, and I will kill you." He was even more offended when Ranos took no apparent notice of him.
In a short amount of time, the group had things well on their way towards setting up the Inn, The Broken Tusk in honor of Crush-More, and were headed north to meet with the King. Here their second grand adventure started:
