Following the 26th race of the season, the top 10 drivers plus any
within 400 points of the leader will be broken out for a 10-race
showdown called ``Chase for the Championship.''
The leader will enter the 27th race with 5,050 points with incremental
drops of five points for all those involved in the championship.
All other drivers will continue to compete to the end of the season but
will start the final 10 races with whatever points they had accumulated.
NASCAR will also award an extra five points for race winners.
Drivers who lead at least one lap will continue to earn a five-point
bonus, as will the driver who leads the most laps at each event.
